    • A system and method for conducting an inventory of tags, wherein each tag is assigned a Tag ID and a manufacturer number. Each tag can be attached to an item to take inventory of those items. A tag reader transmits a wake-up signal followed by at least one clock signal. Each tag increments a first tag count in response to the clock signals, and transmits the Tag ID assigned to the tag when the first tag count corresponds to the Tag ID assigned to the tag. The tag reader records the transmitted Tag IDs. When more than one tag transmits simultaneously, the tag stores the Tag ID in order to resolve the contention when the first read cycle is complete. In the second read cycle, the tag reader transmits the contended Tag ID followed by at least one clock signal. Each tag that contended for the transmitted Tag ID increments a second tag count in response to the clock signals, and transmits the manufacturer number assigned to the tag when the second tag count corresponds to the manufacturer number assigned to the tag. The tag reader records the transmitted Tag IDs, completing the inventory of the tags.

    • The ridge preparation tool is adapted to be attached to a seed planter directly ahead of the trench-forming structure of the planter so as to skim off the crest of the ridge for the production of a clean, relatively narrow strip of prepared soil in which the trench-forming structure can operate effectively. The free-wheeling skimming disc of the tool is held at an oblique angle to the centerline of the planter and may be adjusted to increase or decrease the extent of side throw of the skimmed off materials by selectively raising or lowering an outwardly bent mounting arm that holds disc at its oblique angle. Raising or lowering the angled mounting arm causes the disc to cock inwardly or outwardly while maintaining the same oblique angle. The throw-adjusted disc can be returned to the same skimming depth by appropriate manipulation of a vertical adjustment unit associated with the tool.

    • A tension leveler roll cleaning system which is incorporated in a tension leveler of a type having a work roll supported by backup rolls and includes a payout stand, a takeup stand, and a strip of fabric media which is guided about the backup rolls. The payout stand preferably is positioned upstream of the backup rolls and the takeup stand downstream of the backup rolls. The strip of fabric media extends between the payout stand and takeup stand, and is held against arcuate portions of the backup rolls by spacer plates which extend between the bearing plates supporting the work and backup rolls. The takeup stand includes a hydraulic motor which is actuated to recoil the strip material and draw it from the payout stand about the backup rolls. The strip material is mounted in coiled form on the payout stand and is recoiled into a coil for efficient disposal. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes a solvent delivery component which consists of a spray manifold, supplied by a source of solvent under pressure for depositing solvent on the media. Preferred solvents are kerosene, petroleum hydrocarbon and petroleum naphtha.

    • A mount is secured to an end of a cylindrical housing with a front side facing outward thereof. A knob is provided having a stem extending from one end and a gear secured to and extending radially outward from the end of the knob. An aperture is formed through the mount for receiving the stem of the knob with the knob located on the front side of the mount near one edge thereof. A generally cylindrical shaped face member has an inner side secured to the front side of the mount and an outer side facing outward thereof. The face member has an opening formed therethrough for receiving the knob and its gear such that the knob may be viewed from the opening from the outer side of the face member. The opening of the face member extends to one edge thereof such that a portion of the gear is accessable from the edge. An annular member is located around the face member and is supported by the face member for rotation in opposite directions relative to the face member. The annular member has gear teeth in mesh with the teeth of the gear of the knob for causing the knob gear and hence the knob to rotate when the annular member is rotated relative to the face member.A stop and a slot are provided on the annular member and face member respectively or vice versa for limiting rotation of the annular member in opposite directions relative to the face member.
