    • A method and a machine for making a plastic film bag with opposed closable end openings as well as a double compartment bag is described. The bags may be formed from J-folded, U-folded or tubular film sheets. In one embodiment, a bag is formed with a gusseted end adjacent which a zipper closure and a detachable end is provided and at the other end of the bag there is provided an opening which is closable by a closure tag. The method and machine are also adaptable to form double-ended closure bags having two distinct compartments, each accessible by a respective one of the end closure. The bags formed by the method and machine have various uses such as carrying two separate articles, each article being accessible from one of the opposed ends of the bags. The double compartment bags may also contain two different products, each accessible separately through a zipper closure. The bags may also be formed with a flap provided with wicket holes to support the bag in an automatic bag filling machine.

    • An apparatus and a method for attaching articles to a plastic bag wall and particularly for attaching flat articles, such as coupons, cards, packets, samples, etc., to an inside wall of a panel of the bag and at different locations thereon. The articles are attached by feeding a bag-forming film sheet of plastic material to an article insertion station where the plastic sheet passes about a nip roll. An article transfer mechanism transfers articles from a discharge end of one or more supply magazines to two or more support surfaces at an article insertion station. These support surfaces are aligned with distinct sections of the bag-forming film sheet. An attaching film sheet is fed over a support roll which is in frictional rotational contact with the nip roll with the attaching film sheet aligned over the distinct sections of the bag-forming film sheet. The nip roll is moved in the direction towards the support surface to grasp a leading edge of an article positioned on the support surface to position same between the bag-forming film sheet and the attaching film sheet along the distinct sections. The two sheets are then sealed together with the article captive therebetween. The composite film can then be fed to a bag-forming station.

    • An automatic handle attaching system and method for precisely securing a plastic handle on an edge of a preformed plastic bag is described. The system comprises a delivery conveyor for conveying spaced-apart groups of flat plastic bags with each group having two or more bags disposed one on top of the other and offset along a leading straight edge thereof which is oriented approximately transverse to a conveying direction of a conveyor. Two or more automated bag handling mechanisms are disposed spaced-apart adjacent the conveyor at respective bag transfer stations. Each of the bag handling mechanisms are independently operated and have an orientable bag engaging hand secured to an articulated arm. The bag handling mechanisms are independently controlled by a controller whereby to orient the bag engaging hand in alignment with a top one of the groups of bags at its transfer station and to transfer the bag to a handle securing station where the bag is precisely positioned with respect to a handle which is then welded thereto. After the handle is welded its relationship with respect to other parts of the bag is verified and the bag with the handle is then transferred to a magazine for accumulation to form bag bundles which are then automatically transferred for bundle securement and shipping.

    • An automatic bagging machine wherein one or more articles are discharged in an open top end of a plastic bag which is held and supported at a discharge location. A plurality of collapsed and juxtaposed bags are held adjacent a discharge location. An outermost one of the juxtaposed bags is opened while still being retained with the other bags. As the articles are discharged within the open top end of the outermost bag, they cause the bag to separate from the plurality of juxtaposed bags, but the outermost bag is still retained and supported at the discharge location. A bag closing and displacing mechanism then forms a gathered neck portion of the bag which is then released and displaced to an attaching device.

    • A plastic bag bundle comprised of a plurality of juxtaposed flat plastic bags each having a front and rear wall panel and a mouth opening for inserting one or more articles in the bag. A flat article(s), such as coupons, cards, packets, etc., is retained captive in one of the front and rear panels. The bundle is formed of bags having the flat article in some of said bags disposed offset from said article in others of said bags. The bags with the offset articles are interposed in a predetermined sequence with the other bags so as to form a bundle having a generally constant thickness in the area of the juxtaposed panels. Such bag bundles are used in bagging machines where articles are dropped in a first of this bundle of bags which is opened, and wherein the bundle is usually held on wicker pins disposed next to a loading station.
