    • The pinstripe application system according to this invention provides apparatus and devices for the application of a plurality of mostly narrow stripes created by diversified liquids emanating from a large number of feeder chambers and patterned by one or more exchangeable pin strips which are perforated in accordance with the desired location of a multitude of distinct, or joining, or overlapping stripes produced by moving the substrate or carrier to be decorated at a direction of generally 90.degree. to the lateral extension of the applicator and having means to adjust pressure, angle, and flow characteristics in a manner to simplify and enhance this method of application, as well as locations and sequences for combination with one or more different type color application devices.

    • A liquid feeding system includes a plurality of adjacent liquid feeding chambers having outlets disposed in a laterally aligned integral assembly to supply liquid to a substrate material passing across the outlets. The liquid feeding chambers are divided by vertical partitions into independent units of substantially uniform width and height. A plurality of liquid control means detachably engage the partitions and extend from the chamber outlets to contact the substrate and provide longitudinal passages having selective restricted openings and solidly enclosed sealed boundaries. The liquid control means may be in the form of like sized apertured inserts fitting into the outlets between the partitions and permitting liquid flow only through the selectively dimensioned apertures. Adjacent inserts may include laterally communicating channels between longitudinal passages and overlapping apertures to provide openings of larger widths and varying patterns. Deflecting elements in the passages improve mixing and blending of liquids. Scraper blades seal the lower edge of the liquid control means and provide additional modifications of the liquid applied to the substrate. Various stripes, blends and combinations of colors are obtainable.

    • The patterning and blending system according to this invention superimposes two or more lateral channels distributing diverse liquids over a multitude of crosswise oriented feeder chambers with the option to block the flow connection completely or to connect each feeder chamber with any or all of the distributor channels by means of a choice of variable type and calibrated connecting orifices for the predetermined combination of proportional liquid streams of constant and repeatable quality, creating either single flow or striated liquid bundles, which in any feeder are identical to preconceived pattern notations, or to blend such liquid combinations homogeneously between distribution section and application plane on a continuous basis and at a choice variable from feeder chamber to feeder chamber and from pattern to pattern, and with means to supply automatically and under pressure a number of liquids to a constant level staging area where gravity/suction forces take over to provide measured and blended flow in sufficient quantities to satisfy demand at all production speeds.

    • A versatile system for printing on flexible sheets of material includes a center roller driving at least two backing rollers with an endless flexible blanket sleeve enveloping the backing rollers and urging the backing rollers inwardly against the center roller. The backing rollers are independently adjustable in selective positions about the circumference of the center roller and have selective diameter sizes independent of the other backing rollers. Feed and take up means provide a sheet of material around the rollers and blanket sleeve and printing devices are mounted against the sheet for printing thereon. The printing devices may be mounted at flexible web portions of the sheet and sleeve spaced from the backing rollers for printing on the flexible portion stretched between the rollers. The feed and take-up portions and roller and printing portions are separable to permit different roller and printing systems to be utilized while each system may include various printing devices such as rollers or stationary units.
