    • A restraint divestment system for releasing a crewman equipped with a parachute and restraint harness from an aircraft ejection seat mounted restraint assembly in the event of a ground emergency. A single point crewman actuated mechanism releases the leg restraints, seat lap belt, and the disconnect couplings connecting the parachute riser and shoulder straps and survival kit to the harness so that, in the event of a ground emergency, the crewman can escape from the aircraft with his harness. The actuating mechanism includes an interlock which prevents release of the parachute risers and survival kit in the event of an emergency ejection from the aircraft when in-flight, so that the system can then be utilized by a crewman for manual seat separation and parachute descent. The actuating mechanism includes a pull cord actuated bell crank mechanism which actuates the various release mechanisms and is latched in its full release position. The parachute riser disconnect couplings and the survival kit disconnect couplings are actuated by rapid deflagrating cord, and the cord system includes quick release pull away swivel fittings allowing the rapid deflagrating cords to be separated quickly from the ejection seat.

    • A releasable fastener for securing together two straps, includes a link adapted for attachment to one such strap and shaped as a generally plate-like strike having a pair of spaced-apart locking lugs on opposite edges defining locking notches. A guide channel is provided in one surface of the strike intermediate the lugs for guiding the link into engagement with a buckle adapted to be secured to the other such strap. The buckle is formed by a body having spaced-apart upper and lower plates defining a slot for receiving the strike. A pair of spaced-apart lock-pins extend through the upper plate and said slot into the lower plate, with the portion of said lock-pins exposed between the said plates being notched to define lands for engaging into the locking notches on the strike. The lock-pins are rotated to position the lands in the notches by a slide mounted on the upper plate. The slide includes a flanged slide post slidably positioned in an elongated slot defined in the upper plate with the flange engaging the under-surface of the upper plate to hold the slide thereon. A spring on the post biases the slide to its forwardmost position. Bifurcated levers secured to the upper ends of the lock-pins, with the forked ends thereof engaging said post, serve to rotate the lock-pins in response to sliding movements of the slide. A latch is pivotally mounted on the buckle body for rotating movement in response to a force thereon acting in a direction opposite to the force required to move the slide to the strike unlocking position. Until the latch is thus rotated, interfering surfaces on the slide and latch prevent inadvertent movement of the slide.

    • A decorative pole cover for enhancing the appearance of an upright building support pole or tree trunk. The decorative pole cover includes a flexible sheet having a generally rectangular shape and having upper and lower end margins and elongated flexible attaching lines connected in spaced apart relation along the side margins of the flexible sheet. The flexible sheet also includes decorative indicia on one surface thereof which conveys a visual impression of a totem. The upper and lower margins of the flexible sheet each include elongated closely spaced flexible strands connected at one end thereof and extending from the upper and lower margins which simulate hair and a skirt, respectively, of the totem. The flexible sheet has a width generally at least equal to a substantial portion of a circumference of the pole or tree trunk whereby, when corresponding pairs of the attaching lines are cooperatively attached to one another after the flexible sheet is positioned against and wrapped at least part way around the pole or tree, the pole cover transforms the appearance of the pole or tree into that of a totem pole.

    • A releasable fastener for securing together lap belt straps, shoulder harness straps and a parachute ripcord lanyard. The fastener includes a buckle member or release assembly on one lap belt interengageable with a tongue member or link assembly on the other lap belt. A key on the end of the ripcord lanyard is releasably attached to the link assembly. The shoulder harness straps are engaged with the release assembly before it is coupled with the link assembly. The fastener provides for automatic release of the lap belt and shoulder harness straps to release the user from an aircraft ejection seat after its ejection from the aircraft, while retaining the parachute ripcord in attachment to the ejection seat for initiating automatic deployment of the parachute. Upon manual release of the fastener, the lap belt and shoulder harness straps are released and the ripcord lanyard key is positively ejected from the fastener to ensure its release.

    • A parachute harness release mechanism for use on a parachute harness such as a torso restraint garment vest carrying releasable buckles for connection with parachute riser shoulder harness straps, releasable buckles for connection with survival kit lap belts, and an oxygen mask hose terminating in a releasable coupling for connection with an oxygen supply conduit. The release mechanism includes a hand operated control with a compressed air supply connectable selectively to either the releasable parachute riser shoulder harness strap buckles or alternatively to all of the releasable buckles and the oxygen hose coupling. In the latter mode, the compressed air is further connected to a pressure reducing valve for supplying air to the oxygen pressure regulator, mask hose, and mask for a time sufficient to enable the crewman to escape from the aircraft even though it is underwater or surrounded by fire, dense fumes or smoke.
