    • A system includes a computing cloud having at least one data storage unit and at least one processing unit. The computing cloud is configured to receive information associated with at least one process collected by an industrial tool, archive the process-related information, analyze the process-related information, and instruct a client device on a type of data to be cached by the client device. §The industrial tool could include a sensor configured to collect data associated with industrial equipment. Also, the client device may be associated with a local environment, the sensor may be configured to capture sensor readings at a specified interval, and the local environment may be configured to use a subset of the sensor readings. The client device can be configured to provide all of the sensor readings to the computing cloud.

    • The present invention provides systems and methods for controlling associated processes of a process facility and, in particular, for distributing data among various nodes of a real time process control system that controls such a facility. An exemplary process control system includes a plurality of sensors, controllable devices, and communication paths, as well as a computer system. The sensors and controllable devices are associated with various ones of the processes of the process facility, and the communication paths associate the sensors and controllable devices with the computer system. The computer system operates on data relating to the process facility, and distributes the data among the nodes thereof. The nodes are associated by the communication paths, and the computer system further includes notification controllers. The notification controllers are associated with the nodes, and operate to sense reestablishment of lost ones of the communications paths from first distributed nodes to second distributed nodes and, in response thereto, communicate notification data from the second distributed nodes to the first distributed nodes.

    • The present invention provides systems and methods for controlling processes of a process facility and, in particular, for distributing data among nodes of a real time process control system controlling such a facility. An exemplary process control system includes a plurality of sensors, controllable devices, and communication paths, and a computer system. The sensors and controllable devices are associated with various ones of the processes of the process facility, and the communication paths couple the sensors and controllable devices to the computer system. The computer system operates on data related to the process facility, and distributes the data among both client and process nodes. The client nodes desire data associated with processes of the facility and the process nodes control such process data. The computer system includes (i) a cache having a short access time for retrieving records, and (ii) a supervisory controller, associated with the client and process nodes, that controls storage of the process data in the cache and selectively transfers the process data from the cache to the client nodes.

The communication paths have data traffic capacities and the computer system controls data distribution using the publisher node to efficiently utilize such data traffic capacities.
