    • A system and method for identifying a change in walking speed of a person is provided. The system comprises a plurality of sensors disposed in various rooms of a structure. The sensors are operable to provide a signal representative of motion and/or the location of the person within the structure. The system may also include a processor-based system that may receive signals representative of the motion and/or location of the person from the sensors. The processor-based system may establish a travel time for a path traveled by the person through the structure based on the signals representative of the motion and/or location of the person and may store the travel time within the processor-based system. The processor-based system may identify at least one path traveled by the person through the structure from among various travel paths traveled by the person through the structure as having a consistent travel time over a period of time. The processor-based system also identifies a change in the person's walking speed by identifying changes in the travel time for the at least one path traveled by the person through the structure. The system may alert the person or a caregiver to inform them of the change in walking speed identified by the system.

    • A method and system for detecting a fallen person is described. An initial range image corresponding to a field of view of a DAS is generated. Further, a reference plane disposed in the field of view is identified. Additionally, one or more regions in the initial range image indicative of one or more objects disposed above the reference plane in the field of view are determined. Further, the DAS regenerates a range image corresponding to the field of view after a determined time period. The regenerated range image is compared with the initial range image to determine if the regenerated range image comprises a new object disposed above the reference plane. The new object is determined to be the fallen person if a height of the new object is less than a determined height and a volume and/or a surface area of the new object is greater than a determined value.

    • Methods, systems and non-transitory computer readable mediums that store instructions executable by one or more processors to perform a method for detecting a fallen person are presented. The present technique includes identifying a reference plane and a reference line in a designated space monitored using one or more range-controlled radars. These radars are coupled to one or more antennas configured to define fields of the range-controlled radars to one or more portions of the designated space, where at least one portion corresponds to the reference plane. The range-controlled radars detect presence of one or more parameters corresponding to a subject disposed in the designated space. The parameters, for example, include one or more physiological parameters and one or more motion parameters. The range-controlled radars then identify the subject as the fallen person if the one or more physiological parameters corresponding to the subject are detected proximate the reference plane.

    • A method for detecting changes in locations of persons and objects is disclosed. The method includes projecting a plurality of imaging planes across a specified area near a ground level and at none or least one pre-determined height from the ground level. The method also includes capturing respective imaging lines from the plurality of planes via one or more imaging components, observed when the objects or persons intersect the projected imaging planes. The method further includes recording a standard shape of the respective imaging lines in absence of any person or object within the specified area to establish a baseline image. The method also includes comparing each of successive captured imaging lines with the baseline image of the respective lines. The method further includes determining one or more changes in discontinuities in the captured imaging lines due to interception caused by movement of the object based upon the comparison. The method also includes translating the changes in discontinuities to determine an occurrence of an event of interest and alerting an operator in case of occurrence of the event of interest.

    • A method and system for detecting motion is described. A data acquisition system is positioned at a desired position by establishing a reference line based on the desired position of the data acquisition system. Further, a field of view of the data acquisition system is partitioned into an upper region and a lower region based on the reference line. Subsequently, motion information corresponding to a person in the field of view is acquired. Additionally, it is determined if the acquired motion information corresponds to the upper region and/or the lower region in the field of view. Moreover, a magnitude of motion and an area of motion of the person are computed using the acquired motion information. Subsequently, a motion event corresponding to the person in the lower region of the field of view is detected based on the determined magnitude of motion and the determined area of motion.
