    • An apparatus, method and system are provided for roamer originated automatic telecommunication conferencing and broadcasting. The system embodiment includes a first switch for reception of a first incoming call leg from a roaming mobile unit or from another telecommunication device outside its assigned serving area. The first incoming call leg preferably designates a multiple leg service, such as a telecommunication conference, and also designates a subscriber group. Each particular subscriber group is predefined, and consists of a list of directory numbers to be included within the conference or broadcast session. In the various embodiments, the first switch communicates with a second switch or a database, and obtains a routing directory number to reroute the first incoming call leg, to form a second incoming call leg to the second switch. The system embodiment also includes a conference bridge coupled to the second switch, in which the conference bridge includes instructions to receive the second incoming call leg routed from the second switch, to determine the plurality of directory numbers associated with the subscriber group, and to return to the second switch a plurality of intermediate incoming call legs corresponding to the plurality of directory numbers for routing by the second switch to form a plurality of outgoing call legs. The conference bridge also includes further instructions to monitor answering of the plurality of outgoing call legs, and to connect an outgoing call leg indicating joinder, of the plurality of outgoing call legs, to the conference bridge for a multiple leg telecommunication session, such as a conference or broadcast session.

The system embodiment includes a switch for reception of a first incoming call leg designating a multiple leg service, such as a telecommunication conference, and also designating a subscriber group. Each particular subscriber group is predefined, and consists of a list of directory numbers to be included within the conference or broadcast session. The system embodiment also includes a conference bridge coupled to the switch, in which the conference bridge includes instructions to receive the first incoming call leg routed from the switch, to determine the plurality of directory numbers associated with the subscriber group, and to return to the switch a plurality of intermediate incoming call legs corresponding to the plurality of directory numbers for routing by the switch to form a plurality of outgoing call legs.     • An apparatus, method and system are disclosed for providing a default mode for authentication failures in a mobile telecommunication network. The system includes an authentication center (typically co-located within a home location register), an adjunct network entity, and an originating mobile switching center. The home location register generally stores information pertaining to a mobile unit, such as a cellular or PCS mobile telephone. The adjunct network entity contains one or more application nodes, such as an announcement application node for providing an announcement on a call leg to the mobile unit. When the network has been accessed by a mobile unit through a call leg, the originating mobile switching center is configured to perform an authentication procedure. The originating mobile switching center further is configured, when the authentication procedure has resulted in an authentication failure, to receive a message from the authentication center to deny the mobile unit access to the network, to terminate a communication session with the mobile unit, and to route the call leg to the announcement application node for the provision of an announcement on the call leg to the mobile unit. Following such an announcement, the originating switching center is also configured to route the call leg to a customer service center, for example, to reprogram the mobile unit.

    • A mobile switching center (MSC) in accordance with the principles of the present invention provides access to a subscribers voice message center from the subscriber's roaming mobile station. The MSC is responsive to a “RemoteFeatureRequest” Invocation by the roaming mobile station in which the subscriber's directory number is the same as the dialed digits by routing the call from the mobile station to the subscriber's voice message center. The MSC may also be responsive to a “OriginationRequest” employing the subscriber's directory number as the dialed digits by routing the roaming mobile station's call to the subscriber's voice message center. If the MSC supports both RemoteFeatureRequest-, and OriginationRequest-based access to the subscriber's voice message center, the MSC determines which of the approaches to use in response to the reception of a subscriber's directory number as the dialed digits from the subscriber's roaming mobile station. The MSC may make this determination on the basis of information stored in a local database that indicates the method employed by other telecommunications devices, such as other MSCs, Visiting Location Registers (VLR), or Home Location Registers (HLR), within the system. One of the methods, that is, the use of an Origination Invocation or the use of a RemoteFeatureRequest invocation, may be chosen as a default method.

    • The present invention provides a method for limiting the number of simultaneous call forwarding attempts for a mobile unit. A call is made for a mobile unit. The call request is sent to the MSC associated with the mobile unit. When the mobile unit is not currently active at the MSC, the MSC sends a location request to an SCP. The SCP responds with a return message that includes a temporary location directory number (TLDN) and an indicator. The MSC checks the current number of simultaneous call forwarding attempts being made for the mobile unit. If the current number of simultaneous call forwarding attempts exceeds a threshold, the MSC does not forward the call. If the number of simultaneous attempts does not exceed a threshold, the MSC forwards the call to the mobile unit by sending it to the TLDN.

    • In order to reduce the traffic on the paging channel, the system for reducing paging channel occupancy for message waiting indication in mobile switching centers allows the Message Waiting Notification process to determine a last zone in which the Mobile Subscriber was located and only transmit the Message Waiting Indication to the cells within that zone. This eliminates message transmission on the paging channel of cells which are not likely to have the Mobile Subscriber Station residing in their service area. Multiple retries can be attempted and if the last retry is being activated, the paging can be extended to cover all zones in the Mobile Switching Center. The sharing of information about when a mobile has responded to a message waiting count between the Serving MSC and the Home MSC also reduces the paging channel occupancy. The method of not sending a message waiting notification when a mobile has already acknowledged the message count greatly reduces the impact of Message Waiting Notification on the paging channel occupancy. In particular, border cell areas where the Mobile Subscriber Station can bounce between MSCs is where the biggest benefit can be derived.
