For instance, a co-culture bioreactor system of the present invention can include a first culture chamber that defines a first inlet and a first outlet such that fluid can flow through the culture chamber. The system can also include a second culture chamber defining a second inlet and a second outlet allowing a second fluid flow through this second chamber. The system can also include a semi-permeable membrane. The semi-permeable membrane can be located between the first culture chamber and the second culture chamber.
