    • A kit and a method of use of the kit for applying a full magnet backing to a photograph. The kit includes a mask with a first side with a cutout through it and a second side with either a cutout through it or an applied border outline on a then transparent second side. The border of the cutout in the second side or the applied on border of the second side overlying the border outline of the cutout in the first side. A magnet card of the size and shape of the cutout in the first side has adhesive on one surface thereof and is applied to the rear of the photograph held between the sides of the mask. The photograph is then trimmed to the edges of the magnet card.

    • A disc or other insert placed on the neck of a container provides a visible indication that the lid of the container had been removed or tampered with. An indicator is provided on the disc surfaces and it changes its character to provide its indication upon removal of the lid. For example, the indicator might be microencapsulated, and the microcapsules would be broken upon separation of the discs. Means in the lid rub the indicator for activating it. In a variant of this, the lid is transparent and permits viewing of the indicator through the lid. The disc may have a layer under the indicator for compensating for manufacturing tolerances.

    • A method and an apparatus for rating a thermometer probe, wherein the thermometer probe includes a small thermistor sensing element and a pair of conductors connected with the thermistor contacts and being supported upon a substrate. With the thermistor held at a particular temperature, the electrical resistance of the thermometer probe is measured and the difference between the resistance of that probe and a standard resistance is fed to a computer which operates a laser to encode a machine-readable character on the probe representative of the difference between the measured resistance of the probe and the standard resistance. In use, the probe is inserted in a readout and the readout senses the actual resistance of the thermometer probe which is dependent upon the temperature of the thermistor. An optical reader reads the encoded character on the probe and adjusts the actual sensed resistance for the deviation of the resistance of that probe from the standard resistance, whereby the readout accurately indicates temperature sensed by each thermistor probe.

    • An arrangement and a method for scanning the human breast for localized areas of elevated temperature and which areas do not cool as rapidly as other areas. An array of closely spaced apart, small mass thermistors is supported on several, circle segment, flexible substrate support panels that are adhered to the skin for producing concentric circular closely spaced arrays of thermistors, each connected to a pair of conductors on the panels. The conductors are connected through a connector to a circuit which measures the voltage and/or resistance of each of the thermistors, which is dependent upon its temperature. The voltage and/or resistance and thereby the temperature of each thermistor is measured at several second intervals. A test subject is iced for causing vasoconstriction, and the rate of temperature change in each of the thermistors is noted, to note which localized area of the breast does not cool as rapidly as other areas, or to show other cooling profiles.

    • An indicator arrangement for a tamper-evident container lid. A disc seated atop the open neck of the container is coated at its top surface with microcapsules filled with a dye which changes color upon exposure to air, when the capsules are ruptured. The underside of the lid over the container carries an abrasive which ruptures the capsules when the lid is rotated with respect to the disc. The lid permits viewing of the indication through the lid. The disc is of an extruded, expanded polystyrene foam which resiliently deforms to press the indicator capsules against the abrasive in the lid and which compensates for manufacturing tolerances in the container, lid and disc. The annular periphery of the disc is permanently compressed to define a stiffer ridigidying support for the disc, which prevents the disc from deforming under the pressure applied thereto by the underside of the lid.

    • An enclosure for having foam generated and contained therein is defined between two layers of flexible thermoplastic material, which are edge sealed to define an enclosed unit. One inwardly facing surface of one layer is coated with a first foam generating agent, such as crystals, and the opposite, inwardly facing surface of the other layer is coated with capsules of another foam forming agent, wherein the capsules prevent mixing of the two agents for generating foam. Upon subsequent rupture of the capsules, the foam generating agents mix, react and generate foam in the enclosure. An additional layer may be disposed between the two exterior layers. Both surfaces of the additional layer also carry one of the foam forming agents, whereby two enclosures are defined, one over the other, each for generating and containing foam. In forming the enclosed unit, each layer is separately coated with its respective foam forming agent and thereafter the layers are secured together to define the enclosure.

    • A rectangular wafer thermistor comprises a piece of ceramic thermistor material having electric contact material covering its opposite surfaces. A contact defining score mark with an open geometric shape other than a straight line extends across the thermistor through one layer of the contact material for separating the contact material on that surface into two contacts. The ends of the contact defining score mark intersect the opposite edges of the thermistor at different locations along the thermistor. The contact defining score marks may be V or U or otherwise shaped, and the intersections between the different sections of these score marks are preferably rounded, but may be sharp corners. The shape of the contact defining score mark prevents the thermistor from breaking at the contact defining score mark when the thermistor is broken off a large sheet of thermistor material. A sheet of ceramic thermistor material, coated on its opposite surfaces with contact material, has a grid of thermistor defining score marks defined in one surface, and the sections of the sheet surrounded by the grid lines form individual thermistors. A bending moment of force applied to the sheet will break the sheet along the thermistor defining score marks, but the geometric shape of the contact defining score mark in each thermistor will prevent the thermistor from breaking on the contact defining score mark.
