    • A step-up power supply device includes: a step-up converter; a startup circuit which controls the on/off operation of a switch element of the step-up converter when an output voltage of the device is smaller than a reference voltage; and a control circuit which operates in substitution for the startup circuit when the output voltage is higher than the reference voltage to control the on/off operation of the switch element such that the output voltage reaches a target value. The startup circuit includes an oscillation circuit for generating a pulse signal which has a predetermined on/off ratio, a current comparison circuit for comparing a current of the switch element with a predetermined restriction value, and a drive circuit for generating a drive signal based on which the switch element is turned on/off, the drive signal being generated from the pulse signal to turn on the switch element, and the drive signal being generated from the output of the current comparison circuit or the pulse signal to turn off the switch element.

    • A DC-DC converter has switching means which generates a continuous switching voltage having a specified period from an input voltage and outputs the generated switching voltage, output voltage generating means which receives the switching voltage at an inductor and generates an output voltage obtained by rectifying and smoothing a voltage generated in the inductor, lamp signal generating means which generates a lamp signal and outputs the generated lamp signal, and control means which performs an arithmetic operation using a current signal relative to a current flowing in the inductor, an error signal relative to the output voltage, and the lamp signal to generate a control signal for controlling the operation of the switching means and outputs the generated control signal to the switching means. The lamp signal generating means includes first signal generating means for generating a first output signal based on a frequency divided signal having first and second periods obtained by dividing the time of a clock signal having the specified period and second signal generating means for generating a second output signal having a phase 180 degrees different from the phase of the first output signal based on the frequency divided signal, generates the lamp signal which rises after being held at a constant value for a specified time period in each of the first and second periods, and outputs the generated lamp signal.

    • A method of regulating an output voltage by utilizing a switching regulator, where the switching regulator includes a high side switch, a low side switch having an active diode, a controller coupled to the high side switch and the low side switch, and a current measuring circuit coupled to the high side switch. The method includes the steps of: measuring the output voltage and if the output voltage is below a desired level, activating the high side switch so as to provide current to a load capacitor via a load inductor, if the voltage is above the desired level, activating the low side switch so as to sink current from the load capacitor via the load inductor; and utilizing the current measuring circuit to measure the current flowing through the high side switch in either a positive direction or a negative direction, where the controller is operable for controlling the current measuring circuit and disabling active components contained in the current measuring circuit and the active diode when the active components are not utilized during operation of the switching regulator so as to reduce operational power requirements of the switching regulator.
