    • The present invention provides methods for performing a location update in a mobile communication network. According to an embodiment of the invention, after receiving a location update request message from a managing node, a data base composes a location update acknowledge message including information about an identification of a switching device. Then the data base transmits the location update acknowledge message including information about the identification of the switching device to the managing node. According to another embodiment, after receiving a message from a second managing node, a first managing node composes a reply message including information about an identification of a switching device. Then the first managing node transmits the reply message including information about the identification of the switching device to the second managing node. Further, the present invention also relates to respective devices.

    • Management of a radio telecommunications network, in which a plurality of a radio network controllers (RNCs) are served with a gateway support node having a given configuration. An added RNC connected to the radio telecommunications network is detected and then it is detected the serving gateway support node if the added RNC is a flat radio access node. If the added RNC is detected as a flat radio access node, it is verified whether the configuration allows serving the added RNC and if yes, the added RNC is connected with the serving gateway support node and correspondingly the configuration is modified. Alternatively, if the added RNC is detected as not being a flat radio access node, connecting the added RNC with the serving gateway support node is refused.

    • A method and system for automatically switching cellular telephone calls, in which a cellular telephone monitors the level of its battery power, and when the battery power level dips below a predetermined threshold, the cellular telephone sends a signal to a mobile switching center, which will automatically transfer the call to an alternate phone to continue the call or leave a message. The same system could be used to transfer the call if the cellular telephone goes out of service, for example by leaving the service area, hitting a “dead zone” of service, or having a technical problem with the equipment, but in these circumstances, the signal for initiating the transfer will originate with the mobile switching center, since the cellular telephone will not be in position to send further instructions. If the cellular telephone user has a replacement battery, the system could be set to first attempt to return the call to the original cellular telephone after a predetermined delay period, so that the call is not lost, and, if unsuccessful, then to a secondary number for either continuation of the call or taking a voice message from the sender if the mobile user is not near the alternate phone.
