    • A system employs communication messages in accordance with a determined protocol and includes a source node for producing messages in accordance with the protocol. Each message comprises at least a first level message structure with a unique tag value that identifies a class of message structures to which the first level message structure belongs. The unique tag value enables identification of a grammar template procedure that allows analysis of the first level message structure. A destination node receives the first level message structure and includes circuitry for determining the unique tag value. A memory in the destination node stores at addresses indicated by unique tag values, grammar template procedures for each class of first level message structures. A processor at the destination node is responsive to a detected unique tag value to access a grammar template procedure at an address in the memory determined from a received unique tag value and to analyze the first level message structure in accordance with the accessed grammar template procedure. The system also employs a second level message structure which includes a further unique tag value and comprises an assembly of groups of first level message structures.

    • A system and method for creating a knowledge base continuously developed through a method of repetitiously connecting various sources of locally and remotely located sources of data. The various sources of data can include reports, articles, books, audio recording, multi-media or computer data. The system uses a systematic approach of selecting a search criteria, selecting a set of search objects, identifying connections (relationships) between the search criteria and the search objects, creating an attribute (description of the relationship) and storage of the connection and its attribute. By following this approach additional connections can be made between already connected objects to exhaustively collect all possible relationships between objects. Through the use of unique identifiers the connections are made between systems located across networks. Unused cycle times of participating systems on the network are monitored and when sufficient cycles are present to perform connection searching the available system performs the connection process thus creating the knowledge base.

    • A method (and an article of manufacture having computer readable program code to implement the method) is disclosed to version a node range and locate a versioned node range in a storage architecture, wherein the method comprises: maintaining a set of node ranges, with each node range being formed from a range of node ID values assigned to each node among a plurality of nodes, receiving a node modification request for a node range from a database system, versioning the node range by copying (to a storage) a node range to which the node modification request is to be made, labeling the copied node range with a timestamp, locating the labeled node range via the timestamp and a hash on the node range, and outputting the located labeled node range. Optionally, versioning is done by shadowing nodes in the range to a version hash table based on a range identifier.

The system generally comprises a central program and one or more database systems that may be heterogeneous. At least one of the database systems does not support the generation, maintenance, and/or querying of summary tables. The central program is configured to communicate with the database systems and to identify relations corresponding to summary tables (also referred to as materialized views) within one or more of the database systems. The central program may initiate the generation of summary tables, which may be populated local to the central program or local to one or more of the database systems. The central program may also maintain or coordinate maintenance of the summary tables. In addition, the central program is preferably configured to receive user queries on one or more of the database systems and to generate optimized query plans based upon the user queries, considering in so doing, the contents of the summary tables.
