    • An object of the invention is that a user obtains high antenna gain with a simple construction in various use conditions of a portable wireless unit. To achieve the above object, in the invention, of a conductive antenna element, a part of a length of a substantially half-wavelength is used as a monopole part (1), and is disposed along the inside of a housing at the upper end of a portable wireless unit. Of the antenna element, the remaining part of a length of a substantially ¼ wavelength is used for an inverted-F antenna part (2), and disposed parallel to a ground plate surface within the housing of the portable wireless unit. The inverted-F antenna part (2) is disposed parallel to the upper end of the portable wireless unit (6). One end of the inverted-F antenna part (2) is connected to the ground plate (5) through an earthing point (3) provided at one end. A feeding point (4) is provided spaced from the earthing point by a predetermined distance. With such an arrangement, there is no need of using an impedance matching circuit. The construction of the portable wireless unit is simplified. High antenna gain is secured under various use conditions.

    • A microstrip antenna (MSA) above a ground plane, having a size corresponding to an operation frequency, at a junction point thereof, electrically connected to one end of a monopole antenna having a size corresponding to the operation frequency to operate as a complex antenna. A distance between the feed point of MSA and the junction point determines the input impedance for matching. A microstrip line or an (planer) inverted-F antenna may provide the MSA. The monopole element may be a monopole antenna or helical antenna. A portable wireless communication apparatus includes the antenna apparatus having a housing. The monopole antenna is connected to the MSA when the monopole antenna is extended from the housing. A switch may be provided between the monopole antenna and the MSA for diversity operation. The antenna apparatus may be formed on a Printed circuit board and folded.

    • Two one-wavelength antenna elements (1) and (2) arranged in diamond-wise opposition to each other so that one-ends of the antenna elements (1) and (2) are provided with a feeding portion (3) and the other-ends (4) of the same are opened, and so that the angle (&agr;) of each of bent portions (1a) and (2a) in the centers of the antenna elements (1) and (2) respectively is selected to be an optimal angle to obtain optimal radiation directivity with a simple configuration, thereby obtaining an antenna device which has a high gain. Accordingly, a small-size and low-profile antenna device can be obtained as a mobile communication antenna in UHF and submicro wave bands.
