    • There is disclosed a tubular packing which can be easily produced, and has satisfactory durability while maintaining excellent properties of exfoliated graphite such as cushioning properties and heat-resistance. There are prepared a sheet of exfoliated graphite sheet and two wire nets equal in size and shape to the sheet. The one wire net is superposed on an obverse side of the sheet in coinciding relation thereto whereas the other wire net is held in contact with a reverse side of the sheet in offset relation thereto, and this stack is curved into a tubular shape, and this tubular stack is compressed in a direction of a thickness of the sheet, thereby forming a tubular packing. Therefore, in the resultant tubular packing, the wire nets are embedded in the sheet. The wire net interconnects the opposite end edges of the sheet in a bridging manner, so that the tubular packing is continuous over the entire circumference thereof. The embedded wire nets are exposed respectively to the inner and outer surfaces of the sheet, and the wire net and the exfoliated graphite are present in a coexisting manner in each of the inner and outer peripheral surfaces of the tubular packing, and therefore the tubular packing has the excellent wear resistance and sliding properties.

    • There are provided a plain bearing which is excellent in oil retaining property and wear-resistant property. The plain bearing has a number of fine grooves which are formed in the circumferential direction on each of the inner surfaces of semi-cylindrical bearing metals. Lands are defined as portions of the plain bearing which are left between the fine grooves. The lands comprise higher projecting lands and lower projecting lands. With this arrangement, a rotating shaft is supported by the higher projecting lands and a large amount of lubricating oil can be retained between the higher projecting land and the next higher projecting land thereto. Consequently, the bearing and its associated rotating parts can be prevented from the possible seizure in the running-in period at the early stage when using the bearing, which is liable to cause the seizure in particular. Even when frictional wear of the higher projecting lands is in progress, because of a large amount of lubricating oil retained in the fine grooves between the adjacent lower projecting lands, the plain bearing is excellent in anti-seizure property and wear-resistant property.

    • A bush is divided at a part of the circumference by a slit, so that at least two contacting portions provided on both end sides of the bush in the axial direction have elasticity in the radial direction, and are elastically brought into contact with the inner surface of a housing due to the elasticity. At least one elastic engagement portion between the at least two contacting portions has elasticity in the radial direction similar to the at least two contacting portions. The elastic engagement portion elastically engages with a rotary shaft which is inserted in the bush, thereby supporting the rotary shaft. Consequently, the rotary shaft rotates without vibration of the axis thereof.

    • A method of manufacturing a multilayer material including a back metal and a metal plate made from a metal differing from the back metal is disclosed. The method includes heating powder of the metal formed into the metal plate in a reducing atmosphere so that an oxide on a surface of the metal powder is deoxidized, and spreading the deoxidized metal powder onto the back metal and irradiating laser beam having an energy density of 10 to 100 kW/cm2 onto the metal powder spread on the back metal so that the metal powder is partially heated to be melted, while the laser beam is moved relative to the spread metal powder, and quenching the melted part of the metal powder at an underside of the back metal so that the melted part is rapidly solidified, whereupon the multilayer material has a dendritic structure in which the metal plate extends substantially vertically from a surface of the back metal, and the dendritic structure has a crystal grain size equal to or smaller than 0.02 mm at a cut surface thereof parallel to a surface of the back metal and/or a dendritic arm spacing equal to or smaller than 0.02 mm at a cut surface thereof vertical to the surface of the back metal.
