    • A method of decentralized medium access control in a communications network consisting of a plurality of stations, wherein a sending station transmits a reservation request for a future transmission to an intended receiving station, said intended receiving station being in a reception range of said sending station, said reservation request signalling reservation information including starting point and duration of the transmission, defining a time period of said future transmission, and, in case of a multi-channel system, frequency or code of the channel of said future transmission, so establishing a reservation, and stations active in said reception range overhear said reservation request and other stations than said intended receiving station perform the actions of storing said reservation information locally and defer from medium access during the time period and on the channel of the future transmission.

    • Method for reservation of a medium in a radio communication network for data transmission between stations (A-E) of the network comprising at least one station (A, B, E) operating according to a first protocol (DRP) and a second station (C, D) operating according to a second protocol (802.11), the method comprises the steps of: providing a contention free period (23) within the first and second protocol; performing the reservation of the medium for the first station (A, B, E) according to the first protocol; and performing the reservation of the medium for the second station (C, D) according to the second protocol, announcing the contention free period for the first and second protocol by use of the same signal (21, 22, 31, 33).     • The invention relates to a method of communication in a wireless communication system comprising a first station and at least a second station wherein each of the station for at least a part of the time controls the communication within the system. The first station encodes and transmits messages having a first format in a first mode using at least one communication channel or having a second format in a second mode using one communication channel. The first and second formats have a common part. The second station receives and decodes at least the common part of messages transmitted either the first mode or the second mode.
