摘要： A method for treating sleep-disordered breathing syndromes, for example, snoring in a mammal. The method involves applying energy, for example, energy from laser light, to a preselected region of soft palate tissue in the mammal in an amount and duration sufficient to induce thermal injury to subepithelial tissue in the preselected region of soft palate tissue while minimizing thermal injury to epithelial tissue in the preselected region of soft palate tissue. Thermal injury of the subepithelial tissue results in stiffening of the preselected region of soft palate tissue thereby ameliorating the symptoms of the sleep-disordered breathing syndrome.

摘要： A non-invasive apparatus and method for treating open angle glaucoma in a human eye comprises thermally ablating a targeted region of the trabecular meshwork of a human eye by irradiating the region with a beam of pulsed laser radiation. The beam of pulsed radiation has a wavelength between 350 and 1300 nanometers, energy of 10 to 500 millijoules per pulse, and pulse duration of 0.1 to 50 microseconds. The beam is non-invasively delivered gonioscopically through the cornea onto a targeted region of the trabecular meshwork. The targeted region of the trabecular meshwork is illuminated at a spot size of between 50 and 300 microns in diameter.

The laser includes a pulse forming circuit which generates an excitation pulse having an amplitude which generally increases in coordination with the lasing threshold for the flashlamp-excited dye laser. The flashlamp-excited dye laser is driven with the pulse to produce a pulsed output beam of laser radiation of at least 500 microseconds in duration.

摘要： Described is a device for driving a dermatological laser. The system includes a first diode, an inductor, a switch, and a photodetector. A first end of the inductor is coupled to an end of the first diode, and a second end of the inductor is coupled to a flashlamp. An electrical control of the switch is coupled to a control system, a first end of the switch is coupled to a power source, and a second end of the switch is coupled to the first end of the inductor and the end of the first diode. The photodetector is adapted to measure at least one of output energy or output power of a laser medium pumped by the flashlamp. The photodetector is in communication with the control system for modulating a flashlamp that drives current to maintain a predetermined value of the measured output energy or output power.
