    • A device for removing canine fecal matter includes a lobed knob connected by concentric tubes to a dual housing, the inner of which holds a set of panels that are opened or closed by the linear movement of the smaller tube in combination with a panel actuating ring affixed to the inner shaft. The panels are extended by holding the larger tube and pushing the knob toward the panel housing. When a release button is actuated, the panels close around the fecal matter and, with the panels closed, a protective collection bag is secured by a clamp on the outer housing. With the collection bag inside the cavity formed by the closed panels. The knob can be rotated in either direction to turn the collection bag which causes the collection bag to pull away from the clamp for the purpose of disposal.

    • An undercast liner for being applied to an anatomical shape of a patient and overlaid with a cast material. An elongate fabric has two opposing faces and an intermediate spacer area that both separates and interconnects the opposed faces. The liner is constructed at least in part of hydrophobic, water resistant monofilament yarn for providing enhanced water resistance, light weight, breathability and resistance to collapse and degradation due to moisture and bacteria during extended use to the liner. The liner has sufficient stretch in both a length-wise and width-wise direction to facilitate conforming the undercast liner around the anatomical shape without wrinkling during application.

    • A method and an apparatus for disabling and disposing of a single-use hypodermic syringe from re-use by severing the syringe barrel above the syringe needle and collecting the severed portion of the barrel, including the syringe needle directly in an associated, puncture-resistant receiving receptacle. The apparatus includes a severing means having an opening for receiving at least that end of the syringe having a needle attached thereto and a syringe stop for delimiting the passage of the syringe into the opening and stabilizing the syringe in the opening as the syringe barrel is severed from the syringe above the syringe needle, and a collection receptacle having an open end adapted for receiving the severing means and for collecting the severed portion of the syringe barrel including the syringe needle directly therein. The severing means includes a severing mechanism for severing the syringe barrel from the syringe above the syringe needle and an actuating mechanism for actuating the severing mechanism to sever the barrel of the syringe above the needle. The method for disabling and disposing of a syringe needle from a single-use hypodermic syringe using this apparatus includes the steps of inserting the syringe into the syringe receiving opening until the syringe barrel hub abuts the syringe stop, rotating the actuating mechanism to sever the syringe barrel from the syringe above the syringe needle, and collecting the severed portion of the syringe barrel, including the needle attached thereto in the collection receptacle.

    • A low cost, easily manufacturable, and easy to use card transaction terminal for reading a magnetic stripe on a data card. A two piece case snaps securely together without screws or other fasteners. The case includes printed circuit board supports for receiving and temporarily supporting a single, double sided circuit board. The circuit board includes minimized circuit components, including a microcomputer with integral program read-only memory. An improved data read head sub-assembly facilitates assembly and provides for precise positioning of data read head and substantially parallel biasing of the read head against the magnetic stripe of a data card. Keying features ensure that the read head subassembly is mounted in the proper orientation. An integral strain relief mechanism formed in the two piece case provides strain relief for power cord without additional hardware. An improved data decode method for the microcomputer decodes data in real time as it is read from the magnetic stripe on the card and obviates random access memory external to the microcomputer. An adaptive method is provided for initially configuring and thereafter operating the card transaction terminal, by affixing a predetermined string of additional access characters to a host telephone number in the event that a first attempt to contact a host computer system fails.
