    • An implantable infusion device (10) includes a lightweight, inert housing (12) which contains an infusate (18) for administration to a patient, and an enclosed, gas-impermeable variable volume chamber (30) which contains a pressure source, such as propellant, mechanical spring, or the like. The variable volume chamber may be in the form of a rigid-walled expandable bellows structure or a nonstretchable flexible bag and is attached to the housing so as not to obstruct the entry port for introduction of infusate. A recharging fluid flow path (31) is provided adjacent to where the variable volume chamber is attached to the housing. The infusate is delivered from the device via a catheter in response to expansion of the variable volume chamber against the volume of infusate in the housing. A separate bolus injection port (38) is provided which allows infusate to be safely introduced directly into the catheter and overrides the controlled pressure-driven delivery. The lightweight housing may include integrally formed needle stops (32 and 34) and suture fastening loops (36).

    • An improved implantable valve accumulator pump for the delivery of medication is disclosed. The implantable pump comprises a pressurized drug reservoir. The medication metering assembly comprises a fixed volume accumulator positioned between a pair of valves. The valves alternately open and close to admit medication from the reservoir into the accumulator and to dispense a precise volume pulse to an outlet catheter. In order to improve the pump's accuracy and to increase pumping volume while optimizing the pump's overall size and energy usage a two way diaphragm accumulator is used. The unit can be externally programmed or can be used in a fixed rate configuration that is never programmed but set at the factory or in the current programmable configuration.

    • A connector assembly for establishing fluid communication between a copper pipe and a cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) tube is provided. The connector assembly additionally includes a retainer including a plurality of teeth. In operation, the copper tube is inserted into a female receiving portion of the housing and a fluid-tight seal is established therebetween. Then, a PEX expansion ring is expanded radially outwardly and inserted over the retainer and contracted to urge the teeth against the copper pipe, thereby retaining the copper pipe inside of the housing. Next, an end of the PEX tube and another expansion ring are expanded radially outwardly and inserted over the male end form of the housing. This PEX expansion ring then contracts to establish a fluid-tight seal between the PEX tube and the male end form of the housing.

    • A reusable carrier 10 for temporarily holding an integrated circuit 12 during burn-in and electrical test includes a base 14 and a lid 16 attached to the base 14 by hinges 18. A flexible substrate 19 is attached to the base 14. Alignment posts 20 have tapered surfaces 22 that engage corners 24 of the integrated circuit 12 to position the integrated circuit 12 precisely on upper surface 26 of the substrate 19. A spring-loaded latch 28 engages projection 30 in aperture 32 of the base 14 to hold the lid 16 closed over the integrated circuit 12. Electrically conductive traces 34 on the surface 26 have contact bumps which engage contact pads on the underside of the integrated circuit 12 to connect the integrated circuit 12 to peripheral contact pads 38 around edges 40 of the substrate 19. A spring 42 engages upper surface 43 of the integrated circuit 12 when the lid 16 is in its closed position over the integrated circuit 12, to provide a biasing force to urge the contact pads against the conductive traces 34 with sufficient force to insure a reliable electrical connection. For burn-in, the temporary package 10 containing the integrated circuit die 12 is now loaded into a socket 48 on a burn-in board 50, which is then loaded into a burn-in system, where otherwise standard burn-in is performed.
