    • The invention proposes an electromagnetically actuated, single-surface friction coupling without a rotor slip-ring, having a rotor element (2), a fixed magnet body (6) and a pot-shaped armature element (28) mounted so that it can be displaced axially. A cylindrical jacket shaped area (28B) of the armature element (28) extends with a narrow air gap along an outer jacket surface (12) of the magnet body (6). Between the armature element (28) and a friction surface (30) of the rotor element there is a working air gap (S) that can be bridged. To keep the moment of inertia on the drive output side as small as possible, it is proposed to arrange the rotor element (2) on the drive output side and the armature element (28) on the drive input side.

    • An x-ray film has a flexible sheet having a front face and a rear face, a layer of an x-ray stimulable phosphor on the front face, and a layer of mangetically attractable material, for example a steel foil, on the rear face. This film is used with a film handling apparatus, normally a reader, having structure forming a flap support surface of a size at least equal to that of the film and at least one permanent magnet is imbedded in the structure and extends over the surface. Thus the rear face of the film can be adhered magnetically to the surface. An array of stripping elements is distributed over the surface and each element is displaceable through the surface between a recessed position below the surface and an advanced position projecting past the surface. An actuator can displace the elements from their withdrawn to their advanced position and thereby lift from the surface a film clinging magnetically to the surface.

    • In swinging wire guides for generally conical finishing surfaces, the problem exists of a reliable automatic coaxial setting of the guide axes according to the particular angular position of the wire electrode in the workpiece finishing zone.As a solution, the wire guides (DF1, DF2) supported swinging on the support elements (TO1, TO2) are joined together by a coupling device, which has a guide member (FG) joined correspondingly with the support elements. The latter is set by the relative movement of the wire guides (DF1, DF2) to the desired angular position of the wire guides according to the ideal wire guide axis (D--D). Through swinging coupling gears (SK1, SK2) the angle position of the guide member (FG) is transmitted to the wire guides (DF1, DF2). These coupling gears suitably contain a jointed parallelogram (LK) and a rotary coupling member (DK) for the transmission of two swinging movement components, perpendicular to each other, in the sense of a total biaxial forced coupling of the guide member with the wire guides.

    • A method and apparatus for eroding inner and outer walls of work pieces, such as cylinders and cones, by electrical discharge between the work piece and an electrode are described wherein an electrode-holder is mounted for variable orbital movement on a hollow support fixed on a cylinder axially movable by fluid pressure with respect to a piston therein, along an axis perpendicular to the plane of the orbital movement. A normally fixed piston rod carries the piston, and a shaft extends through the piston rod from the interior of the support to means, providing for coarse and fine adjustment, fixing the shaft to the rod. A rotor in the support is rotatable on the shaft and has an inclined track with which an inclined track on a cam unit is in sliding engagement. The cam unit is rotated on the electrode-holder by power means supported thereby and the cam unit rotates on an axis parallel to the shaft and which orbits about the shaft at a radius depending on the relative position of the two cam tracks which orbit with the electrode-holder. Alteration of the orbit radius or eccentricity is effected either by adjustment of the shaft in the piston rod or by axial movement of the cylinder which is limited in each direction by stops. In the event of excessive pressure arising in the cylinder the piston rod can yield axially against resilient restraint.
