    • A submersible electromagnetic (EM) field generator for seafloor electromagnetic surveying comprising an AC to DC converter operable to generate a DC output from an AC input and a switching module operable to generate a waveform driving signal by selectively switching the DC output. The EM field generator also comprises an antenna that is operable to generate an EM field in response to the waveform driving signal. This design approach of using a switched DC source allows square or rectangular wave EM signals to be generated which have sharp transition characteristics and which are substantially independent of the AC input characteristics.

    • Voids in at least a part of an artificial or natural structures overlying a highly porous layer (e.g. a concrete road or airfield runway) adjacent an exposed surface of the structure are filled with a hardenable material by forming mutually spaced extractor and injector holes through said part and into said underlying highly porous layer; closely fitting a flexible fluid-impermeable covering over the exposed surface, the covering having adjacent its boundary edges an endless hollow wall that surrounds and opens towards the covered surface, and sealing boundary edges of the covering to the structure to form a substantially fluid-tight enclosure incorporating the hollow wall; evacuating air from the hollow wall and from each extractor hole and introducing hardenable material in a liquid or semi-liquid state into each injector hole; terminating evacuation of air from each extractor hole as hardenable material appears at the outlet of the hole and introducing hardenable material into the hole; and, when hardenable material is being introduced into all injector and extractor holes, gradually bringing evacuation of air to a stop as the hardenable material in the voids sets.

    • Voids in an artificial or natural structure are filled with a hardenable material in a liquid or semi-liquid state by surrounding the structure or a part of the structure containing the voids by a closely fitting, fluid-impermeable covering and sealing boundary edges of the covering to the structure to form a substantially fluid-tight enclosure. Air is evacuated from the voids within the fluid-tight enclosure and hardenable material in a liquid or semi-liquid state is allowed to enter into the evacuated voids until the hardenable material appears at the openings of the voids in the surface or surfaces of the structure. The hardenable material is then permitted or caused to set. The covering may be formed wholly or in part by at least one closely fitting, flexible, fluid-impermeable shroud, which is preferably transparent. At least part of the covering may comprise at least one closely fitting, fluid-impermeable coating.

    • A hole in a road, airfield runway or in the ground is filled or partly filled by partly filling the hole with a plurality of separate bodies of concrete, rock or other solid material, and filling interstices between the separate bodies and wholly or partially filling the remaining space in the hole with a hardenable mixture of cold setting synthetic resin and filler, which hardenable mixture sets and bonds firmly to the surfaces of the separate bodies. Preferably, before the hardenable mixture is introduced, a flexible fluid--impermeable covering is applied over the partly-filled hole and is sealed to the surrounding ground surface to form a fluid-tight enclosure, and air is evacuated from the enclosure.
