    • A false twisting apparatus comprising two endless belts crossing each other and running in opposite directions at the crossing point is disclosed, in which a yarn running through the crossing point is nipped by both the belts at the crossing point and is false-twisted by a frictional effect caused between the two belts. In this false twisting apparatus, the angle of crossing of the two endless belt is set in advance, and the apparatus may include means for detecting minute variations of this predetermined crossing angle and correcting such minute variations.

    • A false-twisting apparatus for producing crimps in filament yarns, comprising: a first group of endless belts each having a straightly extending region between two spaced pulleys; about which it is entrained a second group of belts arranged in vertically zigzag fashion relative to the belts of the first group and each belt of the second group having a straightly extending region between two spaced pulleys about which it is entrained. The straightly extending regions of the second group of belts are positioned in vertical zig-zag and parallel fashion relative to the adjacent similar regions of the belts of the first group the belts of the second group are driven to travel in a direction opposite to that of travel of each of the belts of the first group. Means, further, are provided for detecting the fluctuation in the tension of the filament yarns which are passed in successive contact with the contact surfaces of these straightly extending regions of the belts in zig-zag fashion; as are means for adjusting the positions of inlet and outlet guides of the filament yarns operatively coupled to said tension fluctuation detecting means; and means for adjusting the parallel distances between the respective straightly extending regions of the belts. This apparatus can be operated at a very high speed under a relatively low tension on the filament yarns and insures the production of evenly crimped yarns of high quality at low production as well as construction costs and can occupy less floor area.

    • An apparatus for setting and maintaining the nip pressure at a predetermined level in a false twister where two belts running in opposite directions are crossed in such a state that the surfaces of both the belts are contacted with each other and a yarn is nipped at this crossing point by the two belts to impart false twists to the yarn is disclosed. This nip pressure setting apparatus includes a device for compensating variations of the nip pressure where according to decrease of the nip pressure, at least one of pulleys supporting the belts is moved in a direction approaching to the opposite belt so as to increase the nip pressure and maintain it at a predetermined level.

    • A yarn having a number of filaments is passed through between intercrossing work surfaces of two intercrossing endless belts which run in pressing engagement with each other. By suitably selecting the intercrossing angle of the belts, tension acting on the yarn and heater temperature, a crimped filament yarn is prepared having S-twist and Z-twist portions distributed in alternation along the length of the filament yarn. The filaments are tightly engaged with each other in the S-twist (or Z-twist) portions while being separated from one another in the Z-twist (or S-twist) portions. A fabic using such crimped yarn is dyed to cause the tightly bound portions to appear in a dark shade of color and the loosely bound portions in a light shade, thereby producing a salt-and-pepper pattern.

    • A method and an apparatus for producing crimped filament yarns, said apparatus comprising at least one first twister member and at least one second twister member, each of said twister members having a work surface made of a synthetic rubber having a relatively small friction coefficient therebetween. These twister members are arranged so that their work surfaces cross each other at a selectable angle in contact relationship to provide at least one crossing zone for nipping therebetween at least one thermoplastic filament yarn which is fed to twist this filament yarn between the contacting work surfaces successively and at the same time to urge this filament to discharge from this crossing zone successively as the twister members are driven. This method and apparatus allow filament yarns to be imparted desired false-twisting effect, practically without being damaged and without causing uneven twists, at a high operation rate of 800 - 1000 meters per minute.
