    • A document encoder is described, which is conceived as a compact desk set. In order to serve as a multi purpose unit and in spite of that exhibit a compact type of construction, the various printing devices (2, 4, 6, 7, 8) and print backings (41, 42; 47; 55; 64, 71) impacting the document from its front- and back side are arranged stationary in a chassis (1), while the printing process in direction of the lines is accomplished solely through conveying the document by means of a conveyor device. The print devices and the print backings are arranged so that they apply print to the front- and back sides of the document in a partially overlapping way. The document conveyor path (10) is U-shaped, whereby the input station (11) is located at one leg of the conveyor path (10), the printing devices (2, 4, 6, 7, 8) at the other leg (15). The printing mechanisms themselves are either type wheel printing mechanisms (3), stamping print mechanisms (4, 6) or needle print mechanisms (7, 8), according to the desired needs.

    • In printing devices which are to print automatically readable script in particular great value is placed on an entirely accurate and clearly readable printing script because otherwise the reading devices recognize erroneous characters or the documents are rejected. In order to produce easily readable characters and in order to increase the life of the corresponding type wheels it is proposed either to move the document (8) by means of a step motor (SM) with micro-step control (MP, D/A.sub.1, D/A.sub.2, V.sub.1, V.sub.2) and to arrange the characters, which are to be arranged flush right or flush left, according to convention, in the center (FIG. 2A) and to bring about the flush right or flush left printing by means of the micro-step control. In addition, it is suggested, according to the invention, to also control spoke type wheels (1) with different pitches by means of a type wheel drive motor (M) provided with a micro-step control (MP, D/A.sub.1, D/A.sub.2, V.sub.1, V.sub.2).

    • The invention describes a document encoder which, in addition to the printing devices for imprinting the document (43) with the encoded values, is also combined with a stack feed (1) and a reading station (44) for already encoded values. The viewing station (45) is arranged in front of the reading station (44) and, together with the reading station (44) and the document single feed (1), forms an additional module which can be employed as a front and lower construction, respectively, of the actual encoding printer.

    • A device with a read head (16) for magnetically recorded information in electronic data processing plants, in particular in document processing systems, is subject to disturbances by the document operation systems, where modular device units cause magnetic interference fields in the area of the read head (16). In view of the unavoidability of such magnetic interference fields and in order to dispense substantially with a respective shielding for a magnetic read head and in order to generate nevertheless a sufficiently accurate read signal (20), it is disclosed that a read head (16) and a reference head (17) are combined to a read system (33), where the read head and the reference head are respectively associated with the same mechanical and electrical values. The difference signal of the read head (16) and the reference head (17) is composed of the interference signal (19) and a combination of an interference signal and the read signal (20) at the output (21) of the difference circuit (18) and can be fed to a read electronic (23).
