    • Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a single stream wireless communication with a greenfield preamble that uses a short guard interval are described. According to one embodiment, a wireless communication device includes a receiver configured to receive an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signal. The OFDM signal includes a greenfield preamble. The wireless communication device includes an interval select logic configured to determine a type of guard intervals in the OFDM signal based, at least in part, on the greenfield preamble. The wireless communication device includes a signal processor configured to process the OFDM signal based, at least in part, on the type of the guard intervals as determined by the interval select logic.

    • Channel sounding information is received by a first communication device during an antenna selection training procedure. Antenna selection computations are performed, and the computations (i) assume that a second communication device uses a first Nss columns of a full-dimensional spatial spreading matrix to transmit the channel sounding information during the antenna selection training procedure, and (ii) accounts for the use, by the second communication device, of the first Nss columns of the full-dimensional spatial spreading matrix when transmitting Nss spatial streams. The full dimensional channel spatial spreading matrix has components i) a number of rows equal to a number, NT, of transmission chains to be used by the second communication device to transmit spatial data streams, and ii) a column dimension having a number of columns equal to NT, and Nss is less than both NT and NR, the number of receiving chains of the first communication device.

    • A wireless communication system and method uses a spatial spreading matrix to distribute the encoded spatial data streams to a number of transmit chains and further uses the spatial spreading matrix for antenna selection computation in a transmitter. The spatial spreading matrix is designed such that a receiver is able to know and utilize the spatial spreading matrix for computing transmission antenna selection, receiver antenna selection and joint transmission/receiving antenna selection. The use of this spatial spreading matrix for antenna selection computation provides increased accuracy in antenna selection for transmission of spatial data streams, where the number of spatial data streams is less than the number of transmit or receive chains between the transmitter and receiver, and the number of transmit or receive chains is less than the corresponding transmission or receiving antennas.
