    • A chuck has a chuck body generally centered on and rotatable about a rotation axis, a head displaceable on the chuck body generally perpendicular to the rotation axis, and three jaws angularly generally equispaced on the head about a clamp axis offset from and substantially parallel to the rotation axis. All of these jaws are displaceable on the head generally radially of the clamp axis. An actuator is connected to the jaws for synchronously displacing same generally radially toward and away from the clamp axis. The actuator includes an actuator member displaceable axially in the head and provided with respective actuating surfaces inclined to the clamp axis and engageable with the jaws. Two of the jaws are pivotal about respective jaw axes parallel to the axes and the other jaw is displaceable in a plane substantially including the clamp and rotation axes.

    • The chuck is used with a drill drive unit having a spindle extending along and rotatable about an axis. The chuck has a chuck body fixed on the spindle and formed with an axially forwardly open tool recess on the axis, a plurality of angularly spaced and angled guide holes opening into the recess and having inner surfaces, and a respective grit-clearing passage opening at a respective front end into each of the guide holes axially rear-ward of the recess. Respective jaws displaceable in the guide holes have outer surfaces riding on the inner surfaces of the respective guide holes and have front ends in the recess. An adjustment sleeve is rotatable about the axis on the body and interengaging formations on the sleeve and on the jaws displace the jaws radially on rotation of the sleeve about the axis.

    • A power actuator has a hollow cylinder housing generally centered on an axis, a piston axially displaceable but non-rotatable in the housing and defining therein a pair of axially opposite pressurizable compartments, and a piston stem centered on the axis, fixed to the piston, extending axially from the piston, and formed with a pair of separate feed passages each having one end opening into a respective compartment and an opposite end opening axially on the stem. A distributor body rotatable about the axis on the stem at the opposite ends of the passages but axially nondisplaceable on the stem is provided with respective connections communicating with the opposite ends. Thus the compartments can be pressurized via the respective passages and connections for axial movement of the piston and stem in the housing. A pair of axially spaced guides are fixed on the distributor body and a bearing has a race axially rotatable on the housing about the axis but axially nondisplaceable on the housing. An axially extending rod axially displaceable in the guides on the distributor body has a front end that is connected to the race such that it can move limitedly radially relative thereto but not axially. An actuating element is coupled to the rod and a sensor is fixed on the distributor body and actuatable by the element of the rod.

    • The clamp jaws radially adjustable by a drive member each comprise a jaw base guided in the chuck body and a mounted jaw member replacably attached with it as well as at least one connecting pin which is mounted pivotable about the pin axis in the jaw base. According to rotary position the attachment between the jaw base and the mounted jaw member is released or locked. At least one control rod guided longitudinally slidable in the jaw base is coupled with the connecting pins by gear teeth so that the motion of the control rods relative to the jaw base converts to a rotation of the connecting pin and vice versa. The feed of the control rods in the jaw base runs parallel to the feed of the jaw base in the chuck body. For the control rod a controlling member is provided by which the control rod is held fixed from motion relative to the chuck body. The jaw base is slidable for rotation of the connecting pins by its drive member with the control rods held fixed in position. Thus with the control rod held fixed the connecting pins are rotated under force by motion of the jaw base.

    • The jaws of the chuck include a base jaw and a separate, releasable mounting jaw. These two jaw components are connected by at least one shaft which is guided with male-type screw threads in its one end in female-type screw threads of the base jaw. The other end has a lock head which has a projecting lock shoulder, and which lock head can engage in axial direction into a lock retainer in the mounting jaw, when the shaft has been rotated into the position corresponding to the unlocked condition. When the shaft has been rotated into the position which corresponds to the locked condition, it can engage with its lock shoulder in a dovetail formation in axial and positive locking manner. The shaft is further shaped with gear teeth which can operate in the manner of a pinion. In the apparatus there is also provided a control bolt extending transversely to the axis and guided and adapted to be shifted in its longitudinal direction in the base jaw. The control bolt has transversely extending gear-rack type teeth which can meshingly engage with the teeth of the associated shaft. For shifting of a control bolt there are provided control pieces on either side of a base jaw, and these are guided and moved in their longitudinal direction by means of push rods which are axially guided in the chuck base and which can be actuated from the outside of the chuck base against the force of reset springs disposed in the base. Motive power transmission is by wedge-type transmissions.

    • A chuck has a chuck body centered on a chuck axis and having an axially forwardly opening and axially centered recess and an adjustment ring rotatable but not axially displaceable on the chuck body, having a central hole aligned with the recess, and formed with a plurality of guide passages open radially inwardly into the hole. The chuck body has a face directly axially confronting the jaws and formed with an axially projecting spiral ridge. The jaws have axially projecting teeth complementary to and engaging with the ridge. Thus relative rotation of the body and ring about the axis radially displaces the jaws in the ring.
