    • The number of lines in each of at least two printing areas is detected each time a print head conducts main scanning by detecting the presence or absence of dots of dot-pattern data on a line basis, the two printing areas being obtainable separately with a blank area therebetween with lines free from being printed. A decision is made on a printing direction by deciding specialized one-way printing for printing a printing block in the same direction as the direction of an immediately prior printing pass or specialized two-way printing for printing the printing block in a direction in which the movement of the print head becomes minimized in value. The printing block is what is to be printed through the next main scanning according to the relation between the number of lines in each of the printing and blank areas and the number of dot-forming elements of the print head.

    • An image forming system is provided and includes an access unit, a reductive color processing unit, an order sheet print control unit, a composition unit, and a composite print control unit. The access unit accesses a user image stored in a recording medium, the processing unit forms a background image by reducing a color gamut of the user image, and the order sheet print control unit causes a printer unit to create an order sheet on which the background image is printed in a free rendering area. Also, the composition unit separates an area of a subject recorded by a user in the free rendering area from an image of the free rendering area read by a scan unit based on a color gamut of the background image and superimposing the area of the subject on the user image to thereby form a composite image. Finally, the composite print control unit causes the printer unit to print the composite image. A method that the system performs is also provided.

    • A mode selector is operable to select either a first display mode or a second display mode. A controller is operable to cause each of a display and an operating section configured to perform a prescribed operation to be placed in either a first power mode in which a first level of power supplied from a power supply is consumed or a second power mode in which a second level of power supplied from the power supply which is lower than the first level is consumed, and operable to cause the display to display a first image in a case where the first display mode is selected, and to display a second image different from the first image in a case where the second display mode is selected. The controller is operable to cause the operating section to transit from the first power mode to the second power mode when the operating section does not perform the prescribed operation for a first time period. The controller is operable to cause the display to transit from the first power mode to the second power mode at least one of when the operating section does not perform the prescribed operation for a prescribed time period and when the actuator is not actuated for a prescribed time period. The controller is operable to disable the display from transiting from the first power mode to the second power mode in a case where the second display mode is selected.
