    • The invention relates to a tanning agent that is produced by reacting at least one aldehyde of general formula (I) with at least another identical or different aldehyde of formula (I), wherein the variables are defined as follows: Z is a single chemical bond, an optionally substituted C1-C12-alkyl, an optionally substituted C5-C12-cycloalkyl or an optionally substituted C6-C14-aryl, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of an acid catalyst and optionally in the presence of at least another carbonyl compound of formula (II), R1 to R4 represent, independent of one another, hydrogen, optionally substituted C1-C12-allyl, optionally substituted C3-C12-cycloalkyl, optionally substituted C7-C13-aralkyl or optionally substituted C6-C14-aryl, provided that at least another aldehyde of formula (I) in which the radical of Z contains α hydrogen atoms or at least another carbonyl compound of formula (I) is present when Z is a single chemical bond or a radical without any hydrogen atoms. The invention also relates to a method for the production of said tanning agent, to the utilization thereof as curing agent, particularly for pretannage, tannage or retannage of animal skins using the inventive tanning agents. The invention further relates to a powder active agent containing one or more of said inventive tanning agents, to a method for the production of said powder active agents and to the use thereof as curing agent and to leather produced using the inventive tanning agents or the inventive method.

    • A storage arrangement is used as an associative memory having a main memory serving to accommodate the data composed of an associative component (association word) and a non-associative component. A comparator device serves to compare the associative part of the read-out data with a search word and address converters serve to derive storage addresses from the association word or the search word or from parts of such words (prefix). An extension counter is provided whose count influences the address derivation and is increased by one whenever an initially addressed storage position proves otherwise engaged. The main memory comprises a linearly addressed storage bank which is divided into a plurality of pages each comprising a plurality of rows. Each row contains one storage position for accommodating the data, and the sections for accommodating reference characteristics. Separate address covers are provided for the formation of the page and row addresses and the extension counter co-determines the derivation of the page address in accordance with its relevant count. A book-keeping memory, which is read out row-by-row comprises a plurality of rows each having a plurality of bit positions. Each row of the book-keeping memory is assigned to a page and each bit position is assigned to a row of the main memory. Seizure of the bit positions of the book-keeping memory provides information on seizure of the main memory and the book-keeping memory is assigned a book-keeping control unit which controls the setting and the interrogation of markings in the book-keeping memory for seized storage positions in the main memory and the selection of equivalent storage positions.

    • A process for preparing a solution of sulfone-containing tanning materials comprises a) preparing a component A by a1) reacting phenol with concentrated sulfuric acid, with oleum of an SO3 content of from 20 to 65% by weight or with a mixture of sulfuric acid and oleum of an SO3 content of from 20 to 65% by weight, the molar ratio of total sulfuric acid, reckoned as SO3, to phenol being in the range from 0.7:1 to 1.5:1, at from 100 to 180° C. to form a mixture containing phenolsulfonic acid, dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone and sulfuric acid, or mixing the individual components to prepare a corresponding mixture, a2) then condensing said mixture with from 0.25 to 4 mol of urea and with from 0.5 to 4 mol of an aliphatic aldehyde of 1 to 6 carbon atoms per mole of phenol units present at from 40 to 90° C., a3) optionally adding a base to set a pH of from 4 to 5, b) preparing a component B by b1) reacting dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone with from 0.5 to 5 mol of an aliphatic aldehyde of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms and with from 0.4 to 2 mol of sodium sulfite per mole of dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone at from 90 to 180° C., b2) optionally adding an acid to set a pH of from 3.5 to 5.5, c) mixing from 10 to 90% by weight of component A with from 90 to 10% by weight of component B, the sum total of A and B being 100% by weight, and, unless already effected in steps a3) and b2), setting the pH of the mixture to a value in the range from 3.5 to 5.5.
