    • A mechanism for protecting objects sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) employs nested plates to direct the flow of ESD current to a targeted impedance. In one embodiment, an insulator plate is interposed between first and second electrically conductive plates. The insulator plate prevents any charge accumulating on the first plate from arcing to the second plate through the insulator plate. A target plate of electrically conductive material is interposed between the first and second plates over a hole in the insulator plate. The target plate, which is surrounded by an impedance layer of static dissipative material, includes a discharge portion that projects toward the second plate. ESD current flows in a path from the first plate, through the impedance layer, the target plate and again through the impedance layer, and to the second plate. The impedance layer provides a targeted impedance in the ESD current path.

    • A method and structures are provided for implementing a latching gasket including an electrically conductive fabric, and a latching clip. The latching clip includes a support member carrying the electrically conductive fabric for radio frequency (RF) connection engagement with a first wall surface. The latching clip includes a first channel-defining member and a second channel-defining member extending downwardly from the support member. The first channel-defining member carries the electrically conductive fabric for radio frequency (RF) connection engagement with a second wall surface received in a channel defined by the first and second channel-defining members. The latching clip includes a latch arm extending outwardly and downwardly from an end of the support member near the second channel-defining member. The second channel-defining member includes an outwardly and upwardly extending plate with at least one latching tab for latching engagement and spring biasing with the latch arm in a closed position of the latching gasket.

    • An electronic device cabinet includes a first temperature control system positioned to direct a conditioned airflow into a first electronic device storage zone of the cabinet and a second temperature control system positioned to direct a conditioned airflow into a second electronic device storage zone of the cabinet. The first temperature control system includes a first plurality of vortex tubes having a compressed air inlet and a first cooling air outlet that guides cooling air into the first device storage zone. The second temperature control system includes a second plurality of vortex tubes having a compressed air inlet and a second cooling air outlet that guides cooling air into the second device storage zone. A controller selectively delivers compressed air to respective ones of the first and second temperature control systems upon sensing a demand for cooling in corresponding ones of the first and second electronic device storage zones.

    • An apparatus is for grounding one or more cables, each cable having a cable jacket surrounding an electrically conductive layer that includes an exposed portion not covered by the cable jacket. The apparatus includes an electrically conductive enclosure coupled to a ground potential and having an opening therethrough, a plurality of electrical conductors disposed across the opening to form a lattice, and an electrically conductive connection. The lattice is configured to receive the one or more cables therethrough such that the exposed portion of the electrically conductive layer of each cable makes electrical contact with at least one of the electrical conductors. The connection is electrical coupled to the lattice and the enclosure such that the electrically conductive layer of each cable received through the lattice is electrically coupled to the ground potential through the lattice, the connection, and the enclosure.
