    • A method and device for improved efficiency in thermal oxidation is presented which uses a cyclonic flame to combust a stream of hydrocarbons drawn to the flame source by a pressure differential. The improved burner and method are particularly suited for combusting volatile organic compounds that are a derivative result of another waste management process mechanically attached to a thermal oxidizer. The improved burner is formed by configuring a burner basket into a conical shape with openings that allow a combustible gas to travel along the interior of the basket frame. The gas travels spirally within the basket frame as it is assisted by forced air and when ignited, creates a cyclonic flame effectively combusting material such as volatile organic compounds that are manipulated into contacting the flame.

    • A retort oven for decomposition of waste materials through pyrolysis employing a deck with a variable angle of inclination for adjusting the retention time and processing rate of waste material flowing unassisted through the oven interior. The oven includes an outer shell lined with a refractory material and houses an inner oven chamber. The deck is adjustably hinge mounted to the inner chamber supporting sidewalls extending in a decline from a waste material entrance to a charred material exit. The deck is operated in a preferred angle range of inclination between 28°-50° from the oven floor normal. A controlled heat source is positioned within the oven to heat a first outer volume whose heated gases are transferred into a second inner volume of the inner chamber using an array of heat gun tubes heating the deck and material as it descends along the declined deck. The deck can be adjusted for varying the retention time of material within the oven for varied exposure to heat and charring efficiency.

    • A pyrolysis oven configured for vertical conveyance of material for incineration. The oven makes use of gravity and multiple plates to control the movement of material through the oven chamber. The plates and oven interior are heated in a low oxygen, pressurized environment to effect the decomposition of material as it freefalls down the chamber and makes contact with heated plates. The configuration and angle of declination of plates determines the freefall rate and retention time within the incinerating environment. The decomposition produces char and gas resultants, each of which are carried off through separate exits configured in the oven. The oven may be used as part of a waste management system in connection with a thermal oxidation chamber for the treatment of volatile organic compound gases that are a by-product of the pyrolytic process.
