    • An adjustable throat for protecting electrical connections between two mating pieces of electrical equipment such as a transformer and associated switchgear is disclosed. The adjustable throat includes two telescoping tubular members each having flanges at one end thereof with oversized holes for connection respectively to a transformer and associated switchgear. The holes allow for vertical and horizontal adjustment to provide for final adjustment in these directions. One of the tubular members also has elongated open ended slots to allow the throat to be adjusted in and out to allow final connection to the switchgear without the need for minor movement of the gear.

    • Apparatus (10) for interrupting the flow of current in a power distribution system is disclosed for use with an enclosure containing insulating fluid. The apparatus (10) includes a housing (20) formed from insulating material and having a mounting flange (28) formed along the exterior of the housing (20). The flange (28) is located so that the housing extends away from the mounting side and the upper side of the flange. An electrical current interrupter (16), having electrical input and output ends (16a, 16b), is positioned in the housing (20) so that a portion lies within the portion of the housing extending away from the flange mounting side. An actuator (12) is mechanically connected to the interrupter (16) to provide the mechanical actuation required to interrupt the current flow between the input and output ends of the interrupter. When the flange (28) is attached to the enclosure, the portion of the housing (20) extending away from the flange mounting side extends into the fluid within the enclosure.

The draw-out device includes a fuse connected in series with the surge arrester, between the electrical element and grounded tank, with the fuse being sized to isolate the surge arrester from the electrical element, should the surge arrester fail to recover properly from a voltage surge.

    • Electrical distribution apparatus, such as a pad-mounted electrical distribution transformer, which has an electrically grounded tank or casing. A surge arrester assembly includes a housing, and a draw-out surge arrester having first and second insulatively spaced electrical contacts, with the draw-out surge arrester being removably disposed in the arrester housing. The arrester housing has first and second insulatively spaced metallic end members, with the first metallic end member functioning as a mounting structure for mounting the arrester housing in a tank opening, and as an electrical contact which automatically connects the first electrical contact of the draw-out surge arrester to the grounded tank of the apparatus to be protected. The second metallic end member of the housing electrically connects the second electrical contact of the draw-out surge arrester to an electrical circuit point within the tank to be protected against voltage surges.
