    • This invention relates to abrasive compositions useful in preparing purge compositions for purging plastics processing equipment comprising: (A-1) at least one abrasive powder comprising a major amount of calcium carbonate; (A-2) at least one organic rosin material; and (A-3) at least one surfactant. The abrasive compositions of the present invention further may comprise at least one viscosity reducing organic diluent. The purging compositions of the present invention comprise (A) a minor amount of the abrasive composition of the invention, and (B) a major amount of at least one polymer or resin. These purging compositions allow fast and effective purging of processing equipment. These compositions may also be reused, i.e., used for more than one purging operation, and they may be recycled by incorporating the used purge composition into a polymer which is identical to or compatible with the polymer (B) of the purge composition. The invention also relates to a method of purging plastics processing equipment utilizing the purging compositions described herein.

    • The present invention provides a master batch for polyester resins that does not need to be dried prior to use. The master batch according to the invention includes an additive package dispersed in a carrier. The additive package includes one or more colorants, light stabilizers, heat stabilizers, flame retardants, antioxidants, lubricants, anti-stats, biocides, fillers, and process aids. The carrier includes from about 10 to about 25 percent by weight of one or more polyhydric alcohol esters of wood and/or gum rosin, from about 5 to about 35 percent by weight of one or more core-shell polymers, and from about 25 to about 70 percent by weight of one or more thermoplastic polyesters compatible with the bulk polyester molding resins. The present invention also provides a method of forming a polyester article. The method includes letting down a master batch according to the invention into a polyester resin, heating the master batch and the polyester resin to form a melt, and processing the melt to form the polyester article. The method can be used to form a variety of polyester articles such as, for example, blow molded bottles, extrusion blow molded bottles, injection molded bottles, extruded film sheets, and drawn fibers.

    • The present invention provides a new and improved liquid color system for use in rotational molding. The liquid color system includes from about 10% to about 75% by weight carrier, from about 0% to about 15% by weight water, from about 0.01% to about 10% by weight dispersant and from about 10% to about 80% by weight colorant. The carrier comprises a material selected from the group consisting of propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, tri(ethylene glycol), glycerin and mixtures of such materials. The liquid color system displays an evaporation rate of from about 0.01 to about 0.36 pursuant to the test procedures of ASTM D3539-87. The invention also provides a method of using the liquid color system which includes the step of mixing the liquid color system with the polymeric resin powder using a distributive mixer prior to rotational molding.
