    • Apparatus and method for two-stage dehydration of wet particulate matter (such as green forage chops) and disposition of waste products produced during the second stage of dehydration, such as gases, smoke and charred particles, comprise: a first furnace for firing a first dryer in which the chops are partially dried; a first dryer fan for drawing the chops through the first dryer and for disposing of hot moist air; a second furnace for firing a second dryer in which the chops are finally dried and wherein the waste products are produced, the second dryer having a smaller air-handling capacity than the first dryer; transfer means for delivering the partially-dried chops from the first dryer to the second dryer and including either a first cyclone separator connected to the first dryer fan or a material discharge hood disposed between the first dryer and the first dryer fan and a conveyor connected to the discharge hood; a second dryer fan for drawing the chops through the second dryer; a second cyclone separator connected to the second dryer fan for separating the finally-dried chops from the aforesaid waste products; and means, including a conduit and booster fan, for delivering the aforesaid waste products from the second cyclone separator to the first furnace wherein they are consumed.

    • A root and soil separator and root windrowing apparatus to be attached to a conventional root plow, which plow is pulled behind a tractor, so as the plow cuts the roots of trees and brush, the roots and soil will be directed onto a series of power driven, rotary beater blade elements, the circular paths of which beater blades pass between the paths of the blades on adjacent shafts, so as to separate the roots from the soil and move the roots rearwardly into a catcher element, which roots may be dumped from the catcher periodically, as in windrows, to enable the roots to be burned or to be hauled away. Provision is made to journal shafts in the frame of the root and soil separator at each end of each transverse, rotary beater blade, which shafts are connected in non-rigid, non-rotatable relation with respect to the transverse beater blade shaft. The root and soil separator is provided with an independent prime mover to rotate the transverse beater blade shafts.

    • A method and apparatus for forming a hollow, generally tubular, body of noncylindrical shape from a helically wound strand of a material which will firmly bond to itself upon contact, e.g. a thermoplastic. The strand is continuously deposited, onto and in contact with the last helical winding of the hollow body as the body is being continuously and simultaneously rotated and moved along its longitudinal axis, and the radial distance from the horizontal axis of the hollow body of the point of contact between the deposited strand and the last helical winding is gradually varied in accordance with the desired shape of the body. Simultaneously, the speed of rotation of the hollow body is varied in accordance with the variation of the radial distance of the contact point to maintain the peripheral speed at the contact point constant. A number of specific embodiments of apparatus for forming a body in this manner are disclosed.
