    • A drive motor for an electric vehicle is an IPM motor including a motor rotor (25), which is made up of a rotor core portion (29) having an inner peripheral surface, which is mounted externally on a rotary output shaft (24) and which is round in sectional shape, and a permanent magnet (30) disposed within the rotor core portion (29). At a circumferential position which will become proximate to a site of the permanent magnet (30), displaced towards an outer diametric side of the rotor core portion (29), an inner peripheral surface of the rotor core portion (29) and an outer peripheral surface of the rotary output shaft are provided with respective non-round shaped portions (29a, 24a) of a circular shape in section, which form respective parts of a detention or arresting unit (31) for arresting the motor rotor (25) from rotating relative to the rotary output shaft (24).

    • A metal-ceramic composite (a vacuum switch unit 50) having a metal member 13 having a tubular portion 13b, and a cylindrical ceramic member 55. The metal-ceramic composite (the vacuum switch unit 50) has a structure in which an end face of the tubular portion 13b of the metal member 13 is butt joined via a joint metal layer 15 to an end face 55a of the cylindrical ceramic member 55 in an edge sealed manner. In order to provide a metal-ceramic composite having a high joint strength which is less likely to cause defects such as cuts or cracks at the joint, the joint metal layer 15 and the ceramic member 55 contact each other at an annular region of W (mm) in average width which extends circumferentially about the end face 55a of the ceramic member 55. Furthermore, W and D have respective values which satisfy D≧30 {circle around (1)}; and (1/60)×D≦W≦(D/30)+3.1 {circle around (2)} where D (mm) is an outer diameter of the ceramic member.

    • A drive motor for an electrically powered automotive vehicle is provided which includes a motor stator including a magnetic body and coils. The inner peripheral surface of the magnetic body has a plurality of teeth protruding therefrom, around which the coils are wound. The drive motor also includes a motor housing mounted to an outer periphery of the motor stator to retain the motor stator. The outer peripheral surface of the magnetic body includes cutout portion(s) formed at circumferential location(s) thereof, with the circumferential location(s) being at the same phase as those of the teeth. An inner peripheral surface of the motor housing includes engagement portion(s) formed at circumferential location(s) thereof, with the circumferential location(s) being opposed to the cutout portion(s). The engagement portion(s) is/are engageable with the cutout portion(s). The engagement portion(s) and the cutout portion(s) cooperate with each other to form arresting unit(s) for arresting the motor stator.
