    • A synchronous player system is used for recording an ensemble between an automatic player piano and an audio player and playback therebetween; while a user is playing on the automatic player piano in ensemble with the audio player, reference characteristic data of the performance is extracted from the audio music data, and are stored in a memory together with the event codes; when the user instructs the synchronous player system to reproduce the performance in ensemble with the same piece of music recorded in another compact disc, the synchronous player system extracts objective characteristic data from the audio data recorded in the other compact disc, finds differences through a correlation analysis, by way of example, and rescheduling the timing to reproduce the note events for synchronously controlling the automatic player piano and audio player.

    • A musical tune playback apparatus is basically constituted by a controller (CPU), a digital media drive (e.g., a CD drive), a hard disk drive, and a sound system. Musical tune data recorded on a digital storage media (e.g., CD) are played back and are transferred to the hard disk drive together with relative information and/or image data. When a user inputs retrieval conditions, the controller retrieves musical tune data related to relative information (or image), which substantially matches retrieval conditions. Specifically, a relative information retrieval database is stored in a data area of the hard disk drive, wherein an auto-input area automatically describes an index ID, TOC information, and history information while a manual-input area describes other data and information with regard to each musical tune that is played back. Thus, desired musical tune data are automatically retrieved from the hard disk drive with reference to the database.

    • An ensemble system reproduces a performance on an automatic player piano expressed by a set of MIDI music data codes in ensemble with another performance recorded in a compact disc in the form of audio data codes; the ensemble system firstly determines the pitch of the fundamental tone produced through vibrations of a string, then searching the audio data codes for a corresponding tone, calculating a ratio between the pitch of the fundamental tone and the pitch of the corresponding tone, and determining a data read-out speed for the audio data codes; while the MIDI data codes are being supplied to the automatic player piano, the audio data codes are transferred to a speaker system at a speed equal to the product between the standard speed and the ratio so that the piano tones are well harmonized with the electronic tones.

    • A data set including data representing volume levels of an original sound and of an effect-imparted sound that has been set by a first musical instrument is transmitted to a second musical instrument. If any effect corresponding to the transmitted effect volume level data is not achievable by the second musical instrument, the second musical instrument modifies the original sound volume level in accordance with the effect volume level data, to thereby control a total volume balance. When tone color designating information is transmitted from the first instrument to the second instrument and tone color designated by the information is achieved by the second instrument, data representing a tone color group having been achieved by the second instrument is stored. Then, when any tone color group not achievable by the second instrument is designated, the designated tone color group is replaced with the stored tone color group.
