摘要： The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device in which a display failure is unlikely to occur even in the case of forming no alignment film. The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a pair of substrates having substantially no alignment film; a liquid crystal layer which is sandwiched between the substrates and which contains a liquid crystal material; and a polymer layer which is formed on a surface of at least one of the substrates and which controls the alignment of molecules of a liquid crystal. The polymer layer is one formed by polymerizing at least one monomer contained in the liquid crystal layer. The monomer contains a compound represented by Chemical Formula (1).

摘要： A liquid crystal display device includes source bus lines, gate bus lines intersecting with the source bus lines, pixels arranged in a matrix to correspond to intersections between the gate bus lines and the source bus lines, each of the pixels including a TFT, a pixel electrode, a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer, and a potential control section for controlling the potential of the common electrode. The potential control section sets a voltage, obtained by reducing potential Vcenf255 of the common electrode at which flicker is minimum in display of gray level as black display and gray level as white display alternately every pixel by a predetermined voltage, as center voltage Vcen255 of the potential of the common electrode in display of gray level for all the pixels.

The liquid crystal display device according to the present invention includes a pair of substrates, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the pair of substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal material having a negative dielectric constant anisotropy, at least one of the pair of substrates is provided with an alignment film for vertically aligning adjacent liquid crystal molecules, and a polymer layer formed on the alignment film for controlling the alignment of the adjacent liquid crystal molecules, the polymer layer is formed by polymerization of at least one monomer, the polymerization being initiated by radicals generated of the monomer upon absorption of light, the alignment film includes a polymer compound having a main chain that contains an imide structure, and the main chain has an imidization ratio of less than 50%.
