    • A dot matrix type vacuum fluorescent display tube includes anode electrodes, first and second wiring groups, an anode driver, light-emitting portions, a grid electrode, cathode electrodes, and an envelope. The anode electrodes are arranged in a matrix on a substrate. The first and second wiring groups extend in opposite directions with respect to the arrangement direction of the anode electrodes, and each of the first and second wiring groups is extracted from every other ones of the anode electrodes arranged in the matrix. The anode driver applies drive signals, respectively, to the anode electrodes connected to the first and second wiring groups. The light-emitting portions comprise phosphors and are formed on the anode electrodes. The grid electrode is arranged to be spaced apart from the light-emitting portions arranged in a matrix by a predetermined distance. The cathode electrodes are arranged above the grid electrode. The envelope is arranged to include at least the anode electrodes, the light-emitting portions, the grid electrode, and the cathode electrodes, and has a display portion thereon.

    • The distance between filamentary cathodes and a phosphor on an anode substrate can be reduced by shortening the distance between the filamentary cathodes and a grid. To obtain high luminance without loss of display quality, the present invention provides a vacuum fluorescent display (1) with a driver IC, comprising a display unit (3) provided with a phosphor layer on an anode substrate (2), a plurality of filamentary cathodes (5), a grid (4), a driver IC (6), and a filament support (7) for shielding the IC and supporting an end part of the filamentary cathodes. The end part of the filamentary cathodes is fixed to one short side of the vacuum fluorescent display at a long side of the filament support. Depressions are provided to a surface of the filament support, or slits are provided to the filament support.

    • A vacuum fluorescent display includes a display portion, filament cathode, grid, and a pair of filament support members. The display portion is arranged on a substrate and has an anode coated with a phosphor material in accordance with a pattern to be displayed. The filament cathode is applied above the anode of the display portion to be separate from the anode. The semiconductor chips are disposed on a glass substrate and having semiconductor integrated circuits formed thereon. The phosphor layer includes phosphor pixels driven by the semiconductor integrated circuits and arranged on the semiconductor integrated circuits in a matrix with the same space in horizontal and vertical directions. A space between first and second arrays of the phosphor pixels that are formed on end portions of opposing sides of first and second semiconductor chips arranged adjacent to each other becomes equal to a space among the phosphor pixels arranged on the semiconductor integrated circuits.
