    • An alarm system is disclosed for warning personnel at a loading dock that a trailer being loaded has crept away from the dock. In a preferred embodiment, the alarm comprises a box-like housing that can be bolted onto the dock; a clamp that is magnetically held against the outside of the housing and which can be removed for quick attachment to a nearby trailer; and, a spring-loaded cord that is spool fed from inside the housing and connected to the clamp. After the clamp has been attached to the trailer, the alarm automatically arms itself through the use of a novel timing mechanism and spring-loaded actuating arm inside the housing. If the trailer then creeps, it tugs the cord, which causes the arm to trigger the alarm. The alarm stays on but can be automatically shut off by simply replacing the clamp back onto the housing.

    • A lightweight economical and portable structure for small aircraft includes fixed upright tail and wing tip posts and a lightweight generally horizontal boom extending forwardly from the tail post bisecting a line between the two wing tip posts. Cross arms parallel to the boom are secured to the wing tip posts. A similar cross arm extending at right angles to the boom is attached to the tail post. From the ends of the cross arms and points on the boom, the structure is rigged with rope and strong lightweight fabric is cut, sewn and laced on the rope rigging and is supported thereby in overhead relationship to an aircraft beneath it on the ground. Additional wing booms may be suspended beneath the wing covering fabric sections for added stability.

    • A grid structure (42) is mounted within the upper portion (24) of a tapered canister (24), for receiving a relatively loosely packed rectangular array of rods (22) and rearranging the rods into a relatively tightly packed rectangular array at the lower end of the grid. The grid structure comprises a multiplicity of flat, vertically oriented trapezoidal segments (78, 80) interconnected to form a plurality of vertically overlapping grid layers (74, 76). The layers alternate between a row orientation and a column orientation, and thus form a substantially continuous honeycomb of longitudinal cells (64) for guiding individual rods. The cross-sectional area of each cell decreases from the uppermost layer (74a) to the lowermost layer (74i) such that the rods are funneled by the cells to form the tightly packed array.
