    • Computer implemented methods for managing communication between a display device and a remote server or services is provided. A remote server provides access to widget applications that are to be used on the display device. The method includes receiving a request from the display device, and the request includes data that identifies attributes of the display device. Then, examining the data to authorize access a specific application widget gallery. The specific widget gallery includes widget applications that have passing filter parameters for the request. Then, returning to the display device data for populating attributes or widget application data for rendering on the display device. Furthermore, the methods and systems for providing access to, installing, administering and rendering web-based applications (e.g., widgets) on a display device, which connects to a server, are provided. The server is defined by a system infrastructure of software, hardware and storage that can be distributed, load balanced and securely accessed over the internet from any connected location on the globe. A display device, as used herein, is generally a system, with integrated hardware and software that will enable access to the internet, browsing and connections to remote processing servers and storage. The display device, in one example, is a television set, with integrated hardware, memory and software, which can connect to the Internet.

    • The present invention provides a general solution to presenting media interface and navigation tools for content provided from a plurality of sources. The invention maintains a user at a single site regardless of the source of the media content. This permits a consistent interface to be presented to the user. Because the user remains at the same site, differences in tiered membership may be tracked so that the user is only presented with content that the user is permitted to view. The invention uses a metadata language to characterize content so that viewer type, membership level, and other information can be maintained and used for an enjoyable viewing experience.

    • A means and method is disclosed for displaying an image on a display screen graphically representing the topology and information transfer activity occurring on a computer network. One host computer on the network denoted a network monitor gathers information about the topology and traffic on the network. A display image is generated depicting a substantially circular arrangement of host computers and/or sub-networks of host computers comprising the network. Color-coded, dashed, various width, or shaded line segments are added to the display image representing traffic (information transfer activity) occurring on the network between source and destination host computers. Line segments between communicating hosts are coded depending upon the volume of information being transferred. Line segments are removed when information flow between a pair of hosts ceases. Controls are provided to configure the display of the network and to move or zoom in on a portion of the display image.
