    • A delivery device for delivering a plurality of individual surgical fasteners is disclosed. The delivery device has a drive mechanism having a distal and a proximal end, and a first and a second opposing member. The members are moveable proximally and distally with respect to the delivery device, and individually with respect to each other. The device further includes at least one surgical fastener located between the first and the second members. Each of the at least one surgical fasteners has a proximal end and a distal end. The surgical fasteners are preferably made from a superelastic nickel titanium alloy. Additionally an actuator having at least three sequential positions is included. The first position of the actuator is for moving the drive mechanism distally. The second position is for moving the first member proximally to partially deploy the distal end of the fastener. The third position of the actuator is for moving the second member proximally, to fully deploy the distal end of the fastener.

    • Computer addressing hardware and a method of address development which utilizes the concept of a segment as the unit of addressability is disclosed.The fundamental vehicle for addressing is the segment wherein an address space is defined for a process and is included as part of the controlled information of the logical processor (the collection of hardware resources and control information necessary for the execution of a process.) The address space defines a predetermined number of different segments in which instructions can access operands. Within a segment, access is by relative location to the beginning of the segment, and is computed during address development. Any attempt to access information beyond the upper bound of the segment is detected by hardware and an exception condition occurs. An instruction may access an operand either directly or indirectly via a data descriptor, wherein an address syllable in the instruction is used for reference, and specifies whether reference is direct or indirection is to be preferred. The address syllable specifies a base register which defines the segment to be referenced and an offset within the segment. The address syllable also contains a displacement from this defined base. Address development hardware obtains the absolute address of the beginning of the segment, adds to this; the offset defined in the base registers, the displacement defined by the instructions, and if required the contents of an index register. This summation produces the required absolute address.

    • A high-quality, real-time text-to-speech synthesizer system handles an unlimited vocabulary with a minimum of hardware by using a microcomputer-software-compatible time domain methodology which requires a minimum of memory and computational power. The system first compares test words to an exception dictionary. If the word is not found therein, the system applies standard pronunciation rules to the text word. In either instance, the text word is converted to a phoneme sequence. By the use of look-up tables addressed by pointers contained in a phoneme-and-transition matrix, the synthesizer translates the sequence of phonemes and transitions therebetween into sequences of small speech segments capable of being expressed in terms of repetitions of variable-length portions of short digitally stored waveforms. In general, unvoiced transitions are produced by a sequence of segments which can be concatenated in forward or reverse order to generate different transitions out of the same segments; while voiced transitions are produced by interpolating adjacent phonemes for additional memory savings. Pitch can be varied for naturalness of sound, and/or for intonation chanbes derived from key words and/or punctuation in the text, by truncating or extending the waveforms of individual voice periods corresponding to voiced segments.

    • An aquaculture device for growing kelp in the ocean is provided. The device includes an upper hub having an outer rim, where the outer rim of the upper hub has a first perimeter, and the device includes a lower hub having an outer rim, where the outer rim of the lower hub has a second perimeter, where the second perimeter is larger than the first perimeter. The device further includes a plurality of connecting arms coupling the upper hub to the lower hub, and the upper hub and the lower hub are configured to hold kelp seeded grow lines in a diagonal orientation relative to the upper hub outer rim and the lower hub outer rim. The aquaculture device may further includes a floatation structure coupled to the lower hub and configured to be filled with a fluid to adjust the buoyancy of the aquaculture device. Methods of growing kelp in the ocean are also provided. The method may include attaching kelp seeded grow lines to the outer rim of the upper hub and to the outer rim of the lower hub in a diagonal orientation.
