    • A software application is disclosed for creating digital bookmarks corresponding to a portion of a document for presentation on a user's computer. Information is received indicating a selection of a portion of a document a user desires to bookmark. The section identifier(s) corresponding to the selected portion is determined and stored in a bookmark along with the URL of the document. The stored bookmark can subsequently be used to retrieve the selected portion from a network server. Information indicating a preferred output format is received and used to present the selected portion in the preferred output format in a compatible display application.

    • A software application is disclosed for updating content for presentation on a user's computer. A user's activity is monitored to determine one or more portions of the content likely to appeal to the user's interests. Techniques such as eye tracking, mouse pointer tracking, time spent on displayed area, etc., may be used to make such determinations. Information within the determined portions may be sent to another computer, such as a web server, where the information can be used to create and/or gather new content based on the information within the determined portions, which is subsequently returned to the sending computer. The content for presentation is updated based on the new content received. The new content can include displays, advertisements, video, and audio.

    • A tool for determining whether to grant a current person access to a protected resource. A computer receives a plurality of touches performed by a current person on a touch screen. Each touch in the plurality of touches includes a location of the touch on the touch screen and a surface area measurement of the touch screen impacted by the current person. The computer determines whether each touch in the plurality of touches received matches a predetermined touch performed by a person authorized to access the protected resource. If each touch in the set of touches received matches a stored touch performed by a person authorized to access the protected resource the current person will be granted access to the protected resource.
