    • Various embodiments of systems and methods for providing extended file storage for cloud applications are described herein. The method involves receiving a deployment request from a cloud application for file storage service, at the time of deployment. The deployment request includes information identifying a local folder and a mode of storage. The metadata relating to the information in the deployment request is stored in a persistent storage. Further, in response to receiving a start request to run the cloud application an application virtual machine is allocated and a block level storage volume is identified and attached to the application virtual machine. Further, the identified block level storage volume is mapped to the local folder identified in the stored metadata and the application virtual machine running the cloud application is started. The block level storage volume mapped to the local folder is accessed by application processes for performing read/write operations.

    • Various embodiments of systems and methods for cloud environment configuration for cloud application are described herein. In an aspect, the method includes receiving a request for starting a cloud application. In response to the received request, binaries of the cloud application are invoked and the cloud environment configuration for the cloud application is identified. It is determined whether the binaries of the cloud application are to be uploaded independently of its cloud environment configuration. When the binaries are to be uploaded independently of its cloud environment configuration, the binaries and the cloud environment configuration are uploaded separately in different transactions onto cloud. In case the binaries are not to be uploaded independently of its cloud environment configuration, an archive including the binaries and the cloud environment configuration is generated and uploaded onto the cloud.

    • Improved authentication service schemes are described. A first technique enables application specific authentication services even if container-wide authentication services are made available. A second technique prevents an authentication service from being performed if an attempt is made to reach an item of insensitivity within a protected area. A third technique introduces “get/set” functions into a login module callback handler arrangement for retrieving/imposing information from/to a communication session with a user that the login module is authenticating. A fourth technique distributes a login context function so that a network resides between separate portions of the login context function. A fifth technique uses a fallback handler in an application based authentication service so that a container-wide authentication service can be used.

    • Embodiments of the invention are generally directed to a system and method for managing connections. A filter may receive a client request message having one or more parameters. In an embodiment, the filter may modify the request message based, at least in part, on the one or more parameters. The modified request message may indicate that a connection to the client is to remain open after a corresponding response message is sent. In an embodiment, the modified request message is passed to an application for processing.
