    • A device for automatically regulating the intake air temperature of a carburetor-equipped internal combustion engine whose air intake system includes a flow proportioning pivotable flapper in a duct junction admitting cold raw air and/or preheated raw air to the air intake filter, depending on the ambient temperature, the flapper position being controlled by a pneumatic membrane actuator receiving negative pressure from the engine intake manifold, via a vacuum line with a thermostat-controlled pressure relief valve which reads the temperature of the raw air mixture. In the cold air intake duct is arranged a temperature-responsive unit, in the form of either a wax thermostat or a bimetallic spiral and disc cam, which serves as a position-adjustable stop thereby preventing the flapper from completely closing the warm air intake duct, when the engine takes in cold air, operating at full load.

    • Known high-pressure spray nozzles tend to develop wear at outlet edges for a flat stream because of fluid emerging at very high pressure. It has already been proposed to provide, on the nozzle bodies, instead of transverse continuous outwardly open groove-shaped cuts, outlet channels with a cross-sectional pattern that expands outward trumpetwise in an elliptical shape or to prevent any contact between the nozzle body and the high-pressure stream at the outlet edge. It is now proposed to provide the outlet channel with an elliptical cross section, with expansion of the cross section exclusively in the direction of the major semiaxis but with no increase in dimension in the direction of the minor semiaxis. In this way, the flat stream to be formed can be guided and held together without wear at an outlet edge. The nozzle can be used as a high-pressure flat stream nozzle for de-scaling.

    • A binary atomizing flat-jet nozzle with rectangle characteristic comprises a mixing head forming a mixing chamber with two mutually orthogonal connectors for a gaseous and a liquid medium, further a preferably tubular connector connecting to those connectors and a snout forming the slitted nozzle discharge. A metering inset with a cylindrical blind bore is mounted in the second connector supplying the liquid, the blind bore issuing inside the mixing chamber bilaterally into cross-bores. The snout comprises an offset bore with arched bottom. A baffle with a sharp-edged central transmission aperture rests on the bore offset and comprises an inside diameter less than the diameter of the offset snout bore. A nozzle with the above features is characterized by its simple design, easy manufacture and very uniform liquid distribution (so-called rectangle characteristic).

    • An ultrasonic atomizer for liquids comprises a piezoelectric transducer (16) mechanically coupled to an amplitude transformer (20), an atomizing disk (21) mounted to the free end of the amplitude transformer (20), a housing (22) enclosing at least the amplitude transformer (20) and a cap (30) supporting a sieve-like diaphragm (31). The cap (30) is so mounted to the housing (22) that the diaphragm (31) rests on the atomizing disk (21). The cap (30) consists of two mutually concentric cap parts (32, 33) of which one (32) supports the diaphragm (31) and the second (33) serves to mount the entire cap (30) on the housing (22). A spring (36) is so mounted between the two cap parts (32, 33) that the sieve-like diaphragm (31) is held elastically against the atomizing disk (21) and that the opposing force from the spring (36) thereby is transmitted into the second cap part (33) fixed in the housing.Such a liquid-atomizer is characterized in that the diaphragm (31) always rests with a precisely defined prestressing on the atomizing disk (21), whereby operational reliablity heretofore not yet achieved with the previous ultrasonic liquid atomizers is obtained.

    • A flapper-type combustion air mixing valve at the junction between a cold air intake duct and a warm air intake duct, the flapper being pivotally adjustable by means of an electropneumatic actuator which has a spring-loaded diaphragm separating an enclosed air-filled pressure chamber from an open drive chamber accommodating the spring and the flapper drive linkage. A heater coil in the pressure chamber receives variable power from a signal transformer, in response to a combustion air temperature sensor and a flapper position sensor. A load-responsive vacuum switch connected to the engine intake manifold switches the signal transformer between adjustments for a higher nominal control temperature for partial-load operation and a lower nominal control temperature for full-load operation.
