    • An electrically small broadband antenna comprises a plurality generalized contrawound toroidal helical antenna elements, each made from a single continuous conductor divided into two length portions each of which are substantially the same length and which have a generalized helical pattern, wherein the helical pitch senses the two length portions are opposite to one another, and the two length portions are insulated from one another and overlap one another on the surface of a generalized toroid. Each antenna element incorporates a signal coupler with an impedance matching network, wherein the first ports of the plurality of signal couplers are in proximate location to one another and are connected together to a common signal input port, and the second ports of the respective signal couplers are connected to the respective signal feed ports at the node locations where the respective length portions join one another, or at a diametrically opposite location.

    • A contrawound helical antenna produces a uniformly directed circulation of magnetic current with a plurality of magnetic dipole elements. In one embodiment, the magnetic dipole elements have the same curvature, and the magnetic currents on respective magnetic dipole elements are each directed in the same direction, relative to the central signal coupler of the magnetic dipole antenna. In another embodiment, the magnetic dipole elements have the opposite curvature, and the magnetic currents on respective magnetic dipole elements are each directed in opposite directions, relative to the central signal coupler of the magnetic dipole antenna.

    • An antenna is disclosed that has windings that are contrawound in segments on a toroid form and that have opposed currents on selected segments. An antenna is disclosed that has one or more insulated conductor circuits with windings that are contrawound around and over a multiply connected surface, such as a toroidal surface. The insulated conductor circuits may form one or more endless conductive paths around and over the multiply connected surface. The windings may have a helical pattern, poloidal peripheral pattern or may be constructed from a slotted conductor on the toroid. Poloidal loop winds are disclosed with a toroid hub on a toroid that has two plates that provides a capacitive feed to the loops, which are selectively connected to one of the plates. Associated methods are also disclosed.

    • A hydrostatic weight sensor incorporates a bladder having a plurality of cells in fluid communication with one another, and with the outlet of a check valve, the inlet of which is in fluid communication with a source of sensing fluid, preferably the atmosphere. Cell-filling and cell-evacuating restoring mechanisms are operatively coupled to respective portions of the cells of the bladder. When the applied load is removed from the hydrostatic weight sensor, the volume of those cells operatively coupled to the cell-filling and cell-evacuating restoring mechanisms are respectively restored and evacuated, whereupon if the pressure becomes less than the local atmospheric pressure, then fluid is added to the bladder through the check valve, thereby restoring lost sensing fluid. A pressure sensor operatively coupled to the bladder generates a signal responsive to the pressure of the sensing fluid within the bladder, and a signal processor calculates the weight of the occupant therefrom.
