    • An electronic system having a central controller coupled to a plurality of remote transceiver modules by means of a serial bus. The modules are designed to remain in a sleep mode in which they consume no power until such time as a wakeup signal is sent over the bus by the central controller. Each module includes a source of power and power supply circuitry adapted to provide power for operating the module when the power supply circuitry is connected to the source of power. Each module further includes an energy detector coupled to the bus and adapted to connect the power supply circuitry to the source of power upon detection of energy, in the form of the wakeup signal, on the bus. Within each module is a microprocessor which responds to the provision of power by maintaining the connection between the source of power and the power supply after the wakeup signal has terminated and until such time as the module completes its assigned task.

    • The present invention provides a lubricant-impregnated porous substrate. The lubricant-impregnated porous substrate may be used to deliver lubricant as needed to gloves or other surface contacting a tacky resin material during molding or forming of the tacky material. In particular, the lubricant-impregnated porous substrate may be used to lubricate gloves during molding and forming of orthopedic casting materials. The lubricant-impregnated porous substrate may be packaged one or more in a container, and the lubricant-impregnated porous substrate may also be packaged as a kit with the orthopedic casting material. The orthopedic casting material preferably comprises a tape or sheet impregnated with a tacky material wrapped around a core, with the core having multiple projections extending radially outward from a central cylinder to hold the sheet away from the surface of the inner cylinder.

    • An air ionizing device that prevents contaminant buildup on the electrodes, comprising a housing that includes a low pressure plenum that meters dry gas to flow near an electrode, and the electrode is surrounded by an annular shaped shroud. The housing and shroud are configured to provide a laminar flow of dry gas around the electrode, such that moist room-air is prevented from reaching the electrode during ionization. The device may further include a plurality of electrodes and shrouds spaced laterally along an elongate housing, and a high pressure plenum to distribute gas at a plurality of locations to the low pressure plenum. A plurality of mounting bars connect each of the electrodes to wiring inside the low-pressure plenum, the wiring routed to a high voltage power supply. The outside of the housing is formed of smooth concave-shaped surfaces to avoid interfering with existing room-air flow. The air-ionizing device is low maintenance and inexpensive to manufacture.

    • An air ionizing device that minimizes interference with existing room-air flow and lighting, comprising a narrow enclosed housing of an insulating material having intake openings and vent openings. Disposed inside the housing is a fan that takes room-air axially through the openings in the housing, and disperses the air radially. The room-air collects inside the housing until the capacity is reached, and then flows downwardly in a laminar fashion sufficiently near a plurality of electrodes to be ionized. The ionized air exits through vents in the housing and is directed towards the workbench. The housing may be extruded to many different lengths, and include a plurality of fans. Sections of the housing may be attached together to span across a long workstation. A conductive rail runs the length of the housing to electrically connect the electrodes. The outside of the housing is formed of smooth concave-shaped surfaces to avoid interfering with existing room-air flow.

    • The amount of liquid dielectric fuel in a tank is monitored with a capacitor including first and second electrodes immersed in the fuel. The fuel level determines the capacitance between the electrodes. Contaminants in the fuel are reflected as a shunt resistor for the capacitance between the electrodes. A periodic symmetrical triangle voltage is applied to the electrodes. The impedance between the electrodes responds to the voltage by deriving a composite current having a constant amplitude square wave component and a component that is a replica of the periodic voltage. The amplitude of the constant amplitude component is determined, in one embodiment, by sampling the amplitude of the composite current at the center of each square wave component to indicate the capacitance and the amount of fuel in the tank independently of effects of the shunt resistor on the electrodes. In a second embodiment, the amplitude of the composite current is sampled at two different times to indicate the slope of the replica and provide a measure of the resistor. By interpolating the two sampled amplitudes the capacitance is determined.
