    • A flow control valve has a housing having a fluid inlet at one fitting end and fluid outlet at another fitting end, and a control body supported within the housing by support structure bridging between the control body and the housing such that for flow of fluid through the valve from the inlet to the outlet is along fluid paths symmetric with respect to an axis of the control body, the control body and support structure being streamlined so as not to interfere substantially with flow. At least one valve member is carried by the control body in an orientation for being shifted by driven movement along the axis relatively toward and away from the fitting end for control of fluid passing through the fitting end in response to an actuator within the control body. At least one port extends through the support structure for communicating with the actuator and providing for control of the actuator.

    • A remote valve actuator includes an elongated enclosure having a tension spring therein maintained in a tensioned condition by a releasable link which will separate in the event of fire or other exigency to release the tension in the spring. A cable extends between the enclosure and a rotary-actuated valve, where it is attached to a handle of other actuating means. A coupling within the enclosure couples force from the spring to the cable, for pulling of the cable to actuate the valve, upon release of the link. The cable can be of indefinite length to locate the auxiliary actuator some distance from the valve. Manual operation is also provided by the remote actuator.

    • A valve actuator provides preselected automatic spring-powered actuation of a rotary-actuated valve in response to fire, or other occurrence of a specific exigent type. The actuator is secured to a valve having a shaft extending from the valve body and rotatable through a predetermined rotational extent, e.g. 90.degree., for moving a valve element between open and shut portions. The actuator comprises a coiled or spiral torsion spring in an enclosure protectively covering the spring. One end of the spring is secured relative to the cover. A coupling is operatively connected to the other end of the spring and biased by spring force for being drivingly rotated for valve actuation. A camming arrangement holds the coupling against rotation by camming force against the spring force, a releasable link being operatively interconnected with the camming arrangement for maintaining the camming force. The link releases in response to the fire or other exigent occurrence exterior to the cover for releasably permitting rotation of the coupling. The actuator includes structure for securing the actuator to the valve body, with the coupling providing lost arcuate motion coupling to the shaft for causing rotation of the shaft through a desired angular extent for closing the valve, opening it, or causing it to fail in an "as was" position as desired. The lost arcuate motion coupling permits normal rotation of the shaft without the shaft being subjected to said spring force.

    • A valve actuator (A, B) for automatic actuation of a rotary valve mechanism (V, V') in response to a specific exigency, such as fire. The actuator includes a housing (13) affixed in relation to the valve, having a spiral torsion spring (11, 11'). A spring coupling (20) is connected to the spring for being rotatably driven for actuation thereby of the valve mechanism (41, 61) when released. An arm (6) having a camming surface (32') operatively prevents rotation of the coupling until released. A releasable link (L) secures the arm against releasing movement. The coupling is operatively connected to a shaft (40) of the valve mechanism and mating elements (26, 27) carried by the coupling and the housing respectively lockingly interengage the coupling and housing upon actuation such that the valve mechanism is precluded from rotating in a direction contrary to the actuation direction upon actuation.

    • A fluid pressure relief valve provides automatic venting of a high pressure source to an area of lower pressure in response to pressure build-up of the source. The valve includes a valve body in which a recess is provided, a passage providing communication between one end of the recess and the source. A poppet is oriented for movement with respect to the recess and includes a sealing element adapted to close the other end of the recess by sealing engagement with the valve body. A spring urges the poppet toward sealing engagement. The poppet has ports proximate the sealing element which are covered when the sealing engagement is maintained but are uncovered progressively with movement of the poppet out of sealing engagement. If the source pressure exceeds a predetermined threshold level, the poppet is driven increasingly away from the sealing engagement with increase in pressure of the source for progressively uncovering the ports in response to dynamic impact upon the poppet by fluid flow through the valve. The fluid flow exhibits substantially no divergence or pressure drop within the valve to provide high volumetric flow therethrough.
