    • A unit ventilator system includes a number of special diaphragm valves, each of which has a pair of chambers separated by a common diaphragm with a control passage interconnecting the chambers. A spring loaded valve operatively opens and closes an inlet passageway to one chamber. As an on-off valve, the control passageway is connected to the output passageway downstream of an orifice. The second chamber has a sealing wall engaged by the valve to reduce the effective area, so the incoming pressure must decrease below the opening pressure. An exhaust passageway extends from the second chamber sealing wall. A second valve apparatus has a second valve in the control passageway, with a mechanical actuator engaged after the diaphragm has moved a selected amount. The diaphragm unit moves with pressure increase until the second valve opens to transmit the pressure through the first chambers to the outlet. A regulating zero differential diaphragm pressure relief valve apparatus includes the inlet passageway normally closed by a valve unit. The first chamber is connected to an exhaust and by the control passageway to the second chamber to dampen the movement of the valve disc and in particular eliminates the chatter associated with the Bernoulli effect.

    • An audio-communication system includes a single pair of connecting lines between a master station and a plurality of remote stations. Each station includes a locally powered differential amplifier having a high input impedance and a low output impedance. Switches connect a microphone or a speaker to the amplifier and the lines.     • A Doppler motion frequency signal is generated by the movement of an intruder in a radio frequency energy field. The signal is to establish a series of related pulses which are simultaneously applied to all clock inputs of a shift register and to a timer. An alarm signal line is connected to any one of the shift register outputs and a reset signal line is connected from the next output. The timer preferably employs a programmable unijunction transistor and a predetermined time after a last pulse occurs generates a reset pulse to reset the shift register and initiate a new counting cycle. A predetermined number of cycles must occur within a predetermined time which is less than the normal timing cycle of the timer in order to prevent the timer from triggering and resetting the counting device.

    • A bi-material sensing element is essentially rigidly mounted about the periphery. The element is mounted in an environment to sense the humidity, temperature or the like and is to provide a detectable movement normal to the plane of the element. Holes or slots of a predetermined shape are formed in the element and are equicircumferentially distributed about the center. At a critical diameter, the unit has zero sensitivity. The sensitivity of the element will increase when the holes are moved to either side of the critical diameter, with the deflection in opposite directions as the holes are located to opposite sides of the critical diameter. The sensitivity also increases with increased ratio of voids to solid material along the circle diameter on which the holes are located. The critical diameter location varies with the several factors involved in the construction of the bi-material disc.

    • A hydraulic actuator is constructed in an enclosed housing having an internal wall member which divides its interior into forward and rear chambers. An elongated actuator element is slidably supported in the forward chamber with its forward nose portion extending outwardly through an opening in the wall of the housing. A piston is transversely supported on the rear end portion of the actuator element and is in slidable sealing engagement with a cylindrical wall contained within the forward chamber to define an expandable chamber with this cylindrical wall and the internal wall member. A spring means constantly urges the piston towards the internal wall member. Pump means contained in the rear chamber introduces a fluid under pressure through a passageway formed through the internal wall member into the expandable chamber to force the piston and associated actuator element outwardly of the housing to an extended position. The relative location of the actuator element is detected by a position sensing means which provides a variable control signal in response to the movement of the actuator element for energizing the pump means.

The element will thus flex to the side of the lower pressure with a change in the effective conducting area of the opposite conducting layers and a simultaneous decrease in the thickness of the dielectric inner core. Consequently, the capacitance of the unit varies as a function of the deflection and thereby in accordance with the pressure differential applied across the diaphragm element.
