    • An improved method of packaging hosiery articles, and particularly for articles such as ladies'' stockings formed from knit stretch fabric, in a package of the type having a closure flap foldable along the outside of the package. The article is folded over upon itself and is then inserted almost entirely into the package except for a final portion, which extends beyond the end of the package. The final portion is folded outwardly over the edge and sharply downwardly along the side of the package. The closure flap is then folded into the closed position over the final portion of the article, engaging and gripping the article between the inside of the closure flap and the outside of the package, and pressing the article against the edge over which it is folded. The closure flap is secured at points flanking the article.

    • A method of and an apparatus for stripping a pair of hosiery from a shaping and inspecting form and conveying the hosiery to a folding station where the articles are folded longitudinally to position the legs of the pair in superimposed relation. The longitudinally folded articles are then folded transversely to a fixed length and inserted into the open end of an envelope fed from a supply thereof and the envelopes sealed to retain the folded articles in a smooth, flattened condition within the envelope. Alternatively, the articles stripped from the boarding forms may be folded longitudinally and stacked in a vertically movable tray positioned at the folding station, with one end of the articles positioned in vertical alignment in the stack to facilitate further handling.

    • A hosiery form for semi-boarding hoisery articles is collapsible to facilitate loading and stripping. Each form comprises a pair of upstanding leg forms which together accomodate a bifurcated hosiery article. Each leg form comprises a pair of generally parallel elongated rods attached at one end to a base. One of the rods is fixed and the other rod is laterally movable. Attached to the free ends of the rods are a pair of interlocked toe expansion plates that are so configured as to accomodate the toe of the hosiery article. An expansion mechanism is connected to the movable rod to move it between the expanded position and the collapsed position. The expansion mechanism has a spring biased overthrow linkage to hold the rods in either the expanded position or the collapsed position.

    • A method and apparatus for loading hosiery articles on a form, shaping, inspecting and treating the articles on the form, and stripping the articles from the form. The hosiery forms extend upwardly from a plurality of bases carried by an endless conveyor chain through loading, inspection, treating and stripping stations. Each form is collapsible to facilitate loading and stripping. Loading is accomplished manually with the help of a vacuum assist loading mechanism that extends and suspends the hosiery articles in an air stream. The forms are expanded to shape the articles and to present the articles for inspection before a lighted panel. The articles are then treated while on the expanded forms. Finally, the forms are automatically collapsed at the stripping station and the articles stripped therefrom by air pressure and forced into the inlet of a pneumatic conveyor that moves the articles to stacking or packaging machines.

    • A solid state transducer amplifier system is provided in the form of a main operational amplifier having a differential input stage and an active series connected feedback loop as opposed to the conventional passive types of feedback. The active feedback loop incorporates a differential amplifier having an extremely accurate and linear differential transconductance characteristic such that the output voltage signal from the main operational amplifier fed to the differential feedback amplifier results in the generation of a differential feedback current proportional to this voltage. This differential feedback current generates a feedback voltage which is balanced against the differential input signal in the input stage so that changes in the differential input signal are followed by changes in the feedback voltage. Since the value of the differential feedback current is at all times determined by the output voltage signal from the main amplifier fed into the feedback loop, the output voltage signal constitutes a very accurate and linear amplification of the differential input signal. The differential feedback current is virtually unchanged by the common mode differential input voltage applied to the input stage thereby assuring a high common mode rejection. The active feedback amplifier itself incorporates current feedback to linearize and establish a more accurate transconductance characteristic. Towards this end, pairs of monolithic dual transistors are preferably utilized to provide excellent inherent matching and tracking necessary between the generated output currents and feedback currents.
