    • In the method for producing a particulate material (58) from an at least partially liquid material (35) containing a solvent and/or dispersant, this material (35) is atomized in a process chamber (21) into droplets which are frozen to particles (131) by contact with a freezing fluid. The particles (131) are then dried by freeze-drying in the or in another process chamber (22) having a filter (18) at the top. For the freeze-drying, cooled process gas is passed upward from below through the process chamber (22) and through the filter (18) in such a way that at least a substantial part of the particles (131) rest against the filter (18) at least for a substantial part of the freeze-drying taking place in the process chamber (22). This makes it possible to dry a batch of particles (131) in a short time.

    • The area which is to be cleaned is intially subjected to a pulsating jet of a liquid which penetrates through the area and which liquid contains a cleaning agent. Thereafter the area is rinsed by a pulsating jet of water which also penetrates through the area. Accordingly, the dirt gets dissolved and a mechanical working of the respective area is achieved simultaneously with a rinsing away of the dirt. Immediately thereafter the now wet area is penetrated by a hot pressurized air jet such to achieve a driving away of the dampness and accordingly a complete drying. If necessary, above sequence is repeated. Due to the speedy drying a forming of rings at the cleaned area is prevented and it is immediately possible to see if a visually complete cleaning has been achieved.

    • A particulate material containing particles to be agglomerated and/or provided with a coating is introduced in batches into a space bounded by a container, in which a gas, in particular air, is passed through the particles. The particles are set in motion, for instance by the gas, such as in whirling motion, to form a whirling, layer. The particles are wetted by means of a mixture consisting of a gas and the vapor of a wetting agent. This mixture is introduced into the space containing the particles, and cold gas and a mixture of warm gas and wetting agent are supplied for example, alternately. In this manner, the particles may be wetted uniformly and relatively fast, and held at a relatively low temperature. This is of considerable advantage when processing thermolabile materials.

    • The particles of the particulate material to be dried are cooled before the drying operation proper, or in the initial phase thereof, to a temperature low enough to make the liquid to be extracted solidify. At least the drying operation proper is carried out in a space bounded by a container, in which a gas, more particularly air, is passed through the particles. While in said space, the particles are subjected to motion, for example, they are whirled by the gas to form a whirling layer. The temperature of the gas is adjusted to have at least a considerable part of the drying operation take place by sublimation, the heat energy required for the sublimiation being supplied to the particles at least in part by the gas passed through them. In this way, the particulate material may be dried with care and nevertheless in relatively large batches, and with limited time expenditure.

    • A method for continuously joining at least two imbricated flows of flat printed products which are conveyed at equal speeds and spaced from one another, the method includes initially offsetting a first imbricated flow of flat printed products relative to a second imbricated flow of flat printed products so as to form a first lateral overlapping area of both imbricated flows, continuously lifting the printed products of both imbricated flows in the first lateral overlapping area until the lateral overlapping is eliminated, and lowering or dropping the printed products of both imbricated flows in the raised lateral overlapping area, so that partially a printed product of the first imbricated or the second imbricated flow comes to rest above the first or second imbricated flows above a printed product of the respectively other imbricated flow, whereby a single imbricated flow with a second overlapping area of the printed products is formed.

    • A vessel (1) contains a rotor disc (23) mounted for rotation around a vertical axis (17) and arranged to bound a processing space (31) disposed above it. The agglomeration and/or the coating of particles are accomplished by moving the particles by the rotation of the rotor disc (23) and by means of a gas, in particular air, passed upwardly through the processing space (31) and by spraying them with a liquid. The torque required for the rotation of the rotor disc (23) is continuously measured by means of a torque measuring member (75) disposed between the rotor disc (23) and the drive device (77) arranged to drive the same. The agglomeration and/or the coating operation is controlled on the basis of the time-dependent variation of the torque and/or of the first derivative of the same, and/or of a variable having relation to the torque and/or its derivative. In this way, agglomerated particles and/or particles provided with a coat may be produced, the particles possessing relatively accurately prescribed properties, such as for example particle sizes lying within a prescribed range.
