    • A gas turbine exhaust component, such as an exhaust nozzle, is provided that includes circumferential ribs arranged along a longitudinal axis. Longitudinal strakes are supported by the circumferential ribs and arranged about the longitudinal axis. Fastening elements are used to secure the longitudinal strakes to one another to provide a desired exhaust component contour. In one example, fastening elements are used to secure the longitudinal strakes to the circumferential ribs using a bracket. The longitudinal strakes are preformed into the desired exhaust component contour, using low cost forming methods. The longitudinal strakes are formed to fit the circumferential ribs and provide the desired exhaust component contour. The longitudinal strakes are secured to one another to maintain the desired exhaust component contour. The longitudinal strakes may be provided by a low cost steel, in one example.

    • A binding mechanism assembly for binding a sheet item, the binding mechanism assembly including a backing member having an upper surface, and a binding member directly or indirectly coupled to the backing member. The binding member includes a protrusion shaped and located to protrude through a hole of a sheet item to be bound thereto. The binding member further includes a generally flexible flange that is manually movable into engagement with the protrusion to form a generally closed loop and thereby bind the sheet item thereto. The loop is rotatable relative to the backing member from a first position in which the loop is generally located above the upper surface to a second position wherein at least part of the loop is located below the upper surface. The loop is fixedly and not slidably coupled to the backing member.

    • A process for purifying allyl acetate is disclosed. An acetoxylation mixture is distilled at elevated pressure to remove propylene and generate a first bottoms mixture comprising allyl acetate, acetic acid, acrolein, allyl diacetate, and 3-acetoxypropionaldehyde. The first bottoms mixture is flash vaporized, and the resulting vapor is contacted with a solid acidic catalyst under conditions effective to decompose allyl diacetate and 3-acetoxypropionaldehyde. The flashed product, which comprises allyl acetate, acetic acid, and acrolein, is then distilled to remove acrolein and generate a second bottoms mixture comprising allyl acetate and acetic acid. The second bottoms mixture can be used to manufacture allyl alcohol.

    • A system and method authenticates an e-mail message containing a code that may be sent as part of an advertising campaign. The code is a hashed hash result of a combination of the e-mail address to which the message was sent and a pass phrase for the campaign, along with an identifier of the campaign. To authenticate the message, the user supplies the user's e-mail address and the code and the system and method parses the code to identify the campaign identifier and hashed hash result, looks up the pass phrase using the campaign identifier, hashes the campaign identifier and e-mail address and hashes that hash result. If the hashed hash results match, the system and method indicates the message is authentic and otherwise, indicates the message is not authentic.

    • The fluid-based electrical generator utilizes driven flow of a fluid to power an electrical generator for driving an external electrical device. The generator includes a reservoir having at least one sidewall and a floor. A motor coupled to a rotating shaft is mounted external to the reservoir, and a propeller is secured to the rotating shaft. The propeller is driven by the motor and is positioned within the reservoir for generating fluid flow. A rotating support having at least one vane secured thereto is rotatably secured to the floor of the reservoir, and the rotating support is driven to rotate by the fluid flow. An axle is further provided, with a lower end thereof being secured to the rotating support. The electrical generator is coupled to an upper end of the axle, with rotation of the axle driving the electrical generator to produce electricity for the external device.
