摘要： A four-bladed chuck for attachment to a drive spindle of a veneer lathe. The blades include a first flat side for providing a driving area and a second side in a plane perpendicular to the first side of an adjacent blade. The bottom of the second side extends outwardly from the chuck at the outside of the chuck providing an uprise at the outside of the chuck for holding an end of the log for reducing splitting of the log end and holding a split log together. The plane of the second side is approximately 15 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis for reducing splitting. The blades in the uprise are shaped and formed by circular end mill cutter or by casting.

摘要： An apparatus for rounding the circumference of a wood log which is supported by two sets of three drive rollers at spaced points between the ends of the log to establish a geometrical center. A knife is positioned extending the length of the log for cutting off a portion of the log for rounding the circumference of the log. The lower rollers are connected together through a shock absorber to accommodate varying diameters and one roller of each set is connected together by a torsion bar. One of the lower rollers of each set is positioned upwardly relative to the other lower roller an amount for allowing the apparatus to provide a maximum yield from different diameter logs. The rollers are of a plurality of self-cleaning, rotatable drive discs. The apparatus may include debarking arms. And the apparatus may sort the rounded up logs by diameter size.

摘要： A veneer peeling apparatus having a fixed rotatable roller and a cutting knife. First and second movable rollers are positioned below the first roller. The first and second rollers are movable toward and away from the fixed roller and each other. Rotating means are connected to both ends of each of the rollers thereby rotating a log positioned between the rollers and against the knife. An automatic log feeding trough leads to a position between the fixed roller and above the first roller whereby a log automatically moves between all of the rollers when the movable rollers are retracted. The first roller includes flanges at each end limiting lateral movement of a log. The speed of rotation of the surface of the fixed roller is slower than the speed of rotation of the surfaces of the movable rollers. A plurality of space support bearings support each of the movable rollers along their lengths allowing the use of smaller rollers which can move closer to each other to move veneer. A plurality of support bearings are positioned along the fixed roller including bearings having ends angled relative to the longitudinal axis of the fixed roller for wiping debris off of the fixed roller.

摘要： A static support device and associated method used to position tilt-in windows into an orientation that is ergonomically efficient for washing. The static support device includes an adjustable elongated member that is held in a vertical orientation by a free standing stand. A cross member is pivotably coupled to the top of the elongated member, wherein the cross member can be locked into an orientation that is generally perpendicular to the vertically supported elongated member. As a result, the overall static support device can assume a free standing T-shaped configuration. The static support device is positioned adjacent to a tilt-in window, whereby the sashes of the window can be tilted to a point where the sash rests upon the cross member. The cross member is padded to prevent damage to the sash. Furthermore, the slip stop elements extend upward from the cross member that engage the frame of the sash. The engagement between the sash and the cross member prevent the static support from inadvertently moving away from the sash as the window is being washed.

摘要： A chuck assembly for attachment to a drive spindle of a veneer lathe including a drive adapter and a chuck. The drive adapter includes a connection for attachment to the drive spindle and a driving head for attachment to the chuck. The chuck includes first and second ends with the first end having a recess sized and shaped to fit over the driving head of the drive adapter. Releasable fastening means extends between the first end of the chuck and the driving head through the side of the chuck for releasably fastening the chuck to the driving head for allowing easy replacement of the chuck head. The second end of the chuck includes a plurality of blades each of which includes an outer edge extending from the longitudinal axis of the chuck radially outwardly to the outside of the chuck and also extending outwardly from the second end of the chuck, and each of the blades includes a first flat side longitudinally extending from the outer edge with the flat side being on the leading face of the blade in the direction of rotation thereby providing an enlarged and effective driving area. The second side of each of the blades extends from its outer edge to the first side of the adjacent blade thereby providing a self-cleaning recess. The releasable fastener between the chuck and the driving head includes a plurality of indentations in the outer periphery of the driving head and a plurality of screws extending to the side of the chuck and engaging one of the indentations.
