    • A radiant electric heater has a pair of bracket arms rotatably attached to opposite ends of a housing secured to a support bracket attached to a ceiling over a work space. A control switch mounted on one of the bracket arms and a control knob secured to the switch are substantially centered on the housing's axis of rotation. The housing is rotatable relative to the bracket arms throughout an angle of not more than 90 degrees and can be held in any one of several angular positions. The control knob may have a ball chain attached thereto to control operation of the heater from a position remote from the heater. In a modification, heat shields are provided along the upper and lower margins of a reflector assembly to prevent extreme heat build-up on the heater housing.

    • An upright radiant electrical heater has a reflector assembly supporting a vertically-extending heating element assembly that radiates energy through substantially 360 degree. The reflector assembly includes heat reflective panels that disperse heat horizontally over substantially 90 degrees through an open grill at the front of the heater and vertically in a substantially uniform manner so that hot spots are avoided. A fan forces room air into the heater from below the reflector assembly, upwardly through an air passage behind the assembly into an open control chamber at the top of the heater, and outwardly into the room through ducts along the top front edge of the assembly. A thermostatic control for the heating element assembly and the fan motor is located in the air passage at the top of the heater. The flowing air maintains the exterior of the heater relatively cool to the touch, allowing parts of the housing to be molded from a thermoplastic material into aesthetically-pleasing shapes. Power is supplied to the heating element assembly by one or more cold wires including a horizontally-extending cold wire section located between the bottom of the heating element assembly and the top of the fan blade. The heating element assembly includes coiled resistance wires which are mounted in tension in order to reduce noise created by the heating element assembly when first energized.

    • A sorting system in which uniquely coded garments are hung on transport carriers, also having unique identification bar codes. The garment transport carriers include a connector for removably attaching garments or garment hangers and a hook which engages the transport rails so that the carrier can be moved along the rails and throughout the sorting system. Such a hook is used with slick-type rails, screw-type conveyor rails and even channel-type rails, or a rotatable wheel may be mounted on the carrier for movement of the carrier along rails, including channel-type rails. The transport carrier bar code is read as it progresses through the sorting system and is compared with a computer data base of garment information to determine the sorting route. The garment identification is initially correlated in the computer data base before sorting with the carrier identification code. Once all garment carriers and associated garments of a lot have been identified and correlated by the computer, an algorithm is carried out for assigning a sort value to each carrier. A master distributor switch then distributes the garment carriers a first time to a plurality of sort paths based upon a least significant digit of the sort value. Second and subsequent digits of the sort value of each carrier are employed to recirculate and resort the garment carriers to the plural sort paths to complete the sorting operation with the parallel paths. The garment carriers are then sequentially released from the parallel sort paths to an exit sort path in a final serial order representative of the order of the garments desired by the customers.

    • A combination portable electric floor and window fan is provided with louvered front and rear walls, end walls, a top surface having an upwardly-directed fixed-width V-shaped channel for receiving the lower portion of a frame or sash of a window when window-mounted, and bottom surfaces from which an elongate runner extends downwardly for engaging a window sill. The width and angle of the V-shaped channel accommodates window frames or sash of different thicknesses. The upper portions or legs of the V-shaped channel form handles for lifting and transporting the fan. Pivotally-mounted feet are confined totally within the sides of the runner when the runner is capable of sole bottom support of the fan on an outside portion of a window sill. The feet may be pivoted perpendicularly relative to the runner and the front and rear walls to support the fan either on a floor or by hooking onto an inside portion of a window sill. The runner and V-shaped channel are symmetrical about a common plane extending essentially parallel to and midway between the front and rear walls.
